Guest guest
The book " Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution " has an extensive section on what to do about eating out and how to test things (sauces, soups, etc.) for hidden sugar. Most public libraries carry his current book and I highly recommend it as diabetes can cause complications such as stunted growth, etc., that can be avoided if the diabetes is properly treated. All the best, New with a question Hi, I'm new to the list. My 15 yo ds was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was wondering if there is an easy way to find the nutritional information for various restaurants. I thought that they'd have this info on line but so far none have and I've been sending them emails requesting it. That process could take awhile as we have many restaurants we go to at times. Thanks, Barbie
Guest guest
Hello Barbie: I was a very young child and Type 1. My wife (standing over my shoulder) says I need to flip and change some of those words to say that I AM definitely Type 1 & STILL a child (sic. at times) [Jeff wearing his pouty face, looking ~angrily~ over his shoulder] With regard to food the game is the same for all of us; new, old, etc. Can we get the portion size right and then figure out what's in XYZ, whatever that might be. Its not magic, simply experience... it will take time to get good at figuring out assorted foods, particularly eating out. You will get the hang of this.... no worries. Whether for yourself, or your daughter ( ? ) we're here. Write em down, and send em in... Shoot straight & from the hip... worst that happens, nobody will/can answer, (but that's REAL unlikely)? The best that happens being that you draw upon an awful large group of folks with some serious day to day experience, been down the paths you/she now tread. Anything & everything you can think of or imagine... somebody's done it Head space? Sugar issues? Physical stuff? Menstrual stuff? Eating stuff? Out of tissues (emotionally speaking) <wg>...? Someone here, or a lot of someone's have been in the same spot. Don't hold back... ; ) we're all in the same basic boat. Can someone toss me a machine; time for the nightly feeding my vampire (ie a blood test), Jeff
