Guest guest
It was the strangest thing. I took the cath out Thurs night. He went Fri. and got his stitches out. Felt ok most all of the day, later in the day he said it burned a little when he peed so I told him to drink a lot of water and we thought maybe he was just irritated from the cath. We went bed around 9:30 and 11 he woke me and said I have to pee but don't think I can make it to the toilet. So I jumped up and ran to the kitchen and grabbed a wad of paper towels and told him to use them. Then his leg on his MS side started to tense up. I started rubbing both legs like I normally do but it did no good. So I called Timmy. Him and Jody ran across the yards and by then I still couldn't do anything with his legs. Both were stiff. So Timmy got him standing and I got the dining room chair and they managed to get him to the car that way. Before they got him there he kept saying he was peeing. We kept telling him not to worry about it. I ran back in and got a big comforter and kept folding it till it was thick and we put it in the car, a plastic bag on top, and Jody got in the one side and they eased him back so Jody was holding him and Timmy managed to just get his feet in enough. When we got to the hospital they did blood work, urine sample, chest xray too. It came back as a UTI. They started him on Levaquin (sp) in IV and ran it fast so it would get going. They gave him a Vicodin for pain and about 2 I told the kids to go home. There was nothing there to do but stand around. About 3am they got him to his room and all settled. They kept coming in to see if he was in pain, taking temperature as he had one in the ER. Sat. they continued the Levaquin but at a slower drip and he wasn't feeling too bad. Tylenol helped the pain. Monday Dr Reckamp was back and said he wanted the urologist to see him before he was released. So yesterday around 4 Dr stopped by, asked all kinds of questions, did a rectal exam and said his prostate is enlarged and he wanted the catheter left in till next week when we go to see him.He put him on Haltrin(?) They called the script in but I think that was the name. Also he has 3 more days of Levaquin at 750mg and they called in more Vicodin for when the leg spasm happen again.Jody is picking the meds up for us after work since he doesn't need them till later in the day. He gave him some possibilities of treatment but to be honest I don't remember them all. One is a pill, one is to go in and open up with what sounded like a roto router!!! He was feeling pretty good. He took his Ambien around 10pm and 11 he woke me and said it hurt again to pee and his legs were locking again. So I got up and rubbed them like do at home and it didn't help so I called for the nurse and she called Dr Reckamp around midnight or 1am and he said he could have 1 or 2 Vicodin every 4-6 hrs. He fell asleep within a few minutes and hasn't had any more problems. We got home around 10 or so and he has slept the whole time except to wake up for some graham crackers and a jello fruit cup. I am going to let him sleep. Thats all I can think of right now. Actually I am lucky I am thinking at all!! LOL hugs nne
