Dawn,

Definitely hang in there with your diet. It's great that you are

sticking to it. But the pred really does affect how your weight is

distributed and how you lose it.

Since I have been taking my diabetes medicine and really, really

watching my food intake (notice I didn't say DIET) I have maintained

the same weight. Okay that was very discouraging because I thought

that I would never lose the weight w/out really starving myself to

death. I mean I barely eat enough now to keep me satisfied, so how in

the heck would I be able to eat less to lose weight.

Well low and behold I weighed myself 3 days ago and I had dropped 5

lbs. I even used my Dr's scale (with clothes, no shoes, mid-day) and

I was 6lbs less. WOO HOO!!!!!

Guess what the magic was? Water retention!!!! I took a water pill and

dropped the weight instantaneously. I always forget that this gosh-

darn pred makes you retain water also. DUH!!!! I forget until I

notice that my knees start to hurt a little. Nothing major in

comparison to the other pain I've had. That's why i always forget

about it.

So did you rheumy prescribe you any diuretics? If so, you might want

to very occasionally take one and see if it makes a difference. I

don't like taking mine at all, but the fluid just loves to build up

around my knees. And if it is really bad, then my elbows start to

ache.

But to make a long story short, hang in there. You are probably doing

better than you think but the PRED is masking your results.
