Guest guest
Dear Melody, I have to agree with Cheryl. Maybe we do have to be a little careful with the back of our heads...but the price is small to pay for being alive and well! I'll take the squishy back of the head anyday over the pain, headaches, numbness, paraysis and neuropathy I had!!! Hugs, karyn Karyn ACM-I, basilar invagination and scoliosis. Transoral odontoid resection surgery, decompression and fusion C1-C3 - Dr. Menezes Jan 24, 2002 AND... I came home with a HALO!!!

Guest guest
According to my nsg, it is not that much different than having your brain hanging out of your skull already. I was very concerned pre-op that this would make me more prone to injury. He assured my that unless I was letting my head be used for batting practice, that having a laminectomy would not significantly increase my risk of injury. I was going downhill so fast anyways that it was worth having less skull for. Cheryl Sousa ~ stupid question?? ~ ~ ~Doesn't the laminectomy open one up for more serious injury in the ~event of trauma? I was going downhill so fast > anyways that it was worth having less skull for. I guess I'll respond to the list on this question. I had a C1-2 laminectomy in 1990 with my first decompression. I wound up with cranial settling 10 years later, and needed a craniocervical fusion. My surgeon did believe that the laminectomies that I had done contributed to the settling. I also have a retroflexed odontoid, multiple head and neck injuries, and had two neck surgeries prior to the fusion. Kathleen PS - No question is stupid, just the unasked ones are :-)
