Well, Robyn, part of that is there are some steps where they do need to stop for a while -- like letting the slab cure; if the just kept on truckin' you would NOT be an happy camper in a few years. Of course, this can also be a PITA . . . when they poured the foundations for our addition, it rained 8 inches that night. So, after they pumped out our new mini-pool, we had to wait for what seemed like forever for the cement to finish curing. OTOH, a long, slow cure is better for the cement -- really lessens the probability for future cracks . . . which is why we 'watered' the new patio every day for a week after it was poured. Also, the speed at which things happen is highly variable; it only took them a day to frame and rafter the addition once the foundation was ready. Ditto for drywalling. So, don't despair yet.
