SHG vs HSG - insurance question

Hi,

I just got my bill for the SHG (sonohysterogram) I had in March and

it was $1300! My insurance is covering all but $350, but it still

seems ridiculous. It was a 5 minute procedure done in the office, my

RE injected saline in my uterus and did a quick ultrasound. I didn't

get a followup report or pictures. The codes they billed for are

76831 and 58340, which are the same codes used for the HSG

(hysterosalpingogram) I had done last year. The HSG was a much

bigger deal - done by the radiology department, complete with xray

films and a radiologist report. I tried searching the CPT codes on

the internet and it seems like they can use the same HSG codes for

the SHG! That does not seem fair!

So my question is for anyone who has had an SHG - can you check your

bill and see what they coded?

Thanks,

Ronna
