We have been chelating since mid Dec. 2002. In the beginning my daughter was

quite unaware of what was happening and didn't fight the blood draws.

NOW - she knows!!!!! We have made several attempts to get blood, we use EMLA,

Motrin before and after and have had to resort to 'papoosing' her. I understand

that we need the draws to be sure liver functioning and platelets look good, is

there any other way of getting this information?

We are using DMSA/ALA, I'm wondering if I should give her a break from DMSA so

we don't have to draw blood so often.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not that I know of--- not in this form.

However, Traditional Chinese Medicine is something you might consider.

It is a very different slant on checking the liver.

It uses tongue and pulse diagnosis (look at tongue, feel pulses

in both wrists) and is totally geared to supporting and balancing

the major organ systems. I'm sorry I do not have a reference

for how to find a pediatric acupunturist :(

You can also (without testing) do various things to support the

liver, such as give/take milk thistle, eat beets, artichokes,

low or no use of pesticides/chemicals/coffee/drugs......

Yes, you can use just ALA. If she has lead poisoning, then the

DMSA is necessary--- for mercury it is OPTIONAL. However, even

with lead, you could use DMSA less often, like once a month.

*I might need to find one of these guys/gals!!! This papoosing thing is worse

than when we started ABA - VERY UGLY, takes me, 4 nurses and the lab tech.

* We give Milk Thistle about 3 on chelating days and 2 on off cheltaing days.

It contains: 175mg Milk Thistle Extract

standardized to contain 80%

Silymarin, 140mg -

whatever that means

* I might have to go that route. We screwed up and never did the hair test,

I'm going strictly on " mother's intuition " , and support from different

listserves and parents.

Yes, you have to decide what is an acceptable tradeoff and what

isn't. Very hard. I would certainly consider ALA only if that

would get you out of the blood tests (which it may or may not).

Silymarin is an active ingredient in milk thistle. I don't

know how it is standardized though.....

Anyway, it is good stuff for liver. :)

yes, I'm wondering that too. It depends on why you are doing the

tests now, I guess. If you stop DMSA and use just ALA, that does

not stress the liver. Except that DETOX still stresses the liver,

and being mercury poisoned is an ongoing stress on the liver.

So her liver could still be very stressed (in fact, I think most

people who are mercury toxic have a LOT of liver stress.)

Well, she's only 3.5 yrs old. I know that she will have some stress of the

liver, but will it be as much as an older child/person. Does age and damage mean

anything in this area, or is it just stress all the way around. Is there anyway

I could look for stress signs other than blood. I'm keeping all the replies to

this for future reference.

With regards to the bloodwork insist upon someone who is very

experienced! With the right person your child's vein can be found

fairly painlessly and it will be over quickly!

I bribe my child with food and a toy if I need to! I bring a Toys R

Us advertisement or a paper I printed out with a favorite toy on it.

I promise a milkshake or a meal at a favorite restaurant!

My son has had so many tests and NOT ONE has told us anything except

my son was " low-normal " for carnitine deficiency. Everything else

comes back fine. The scenario is we bring our son to a doctor.

Describe our son. The dr orders tests. The tests come back telling us

nothing. It's good to know nothing sometimes too eh?

I agree with all the above advice - hydrating well, experienced

phelbotimist, cream with warm cloth. Bring a portable DVD for

distraction if you can. Also make sure that wherever you go, they can

draw blood for the tests you need and are willing to ship it to the

labs the doc wants it shipped to. for example, if testing for

carnitine the hospital/lab has to have special equipment to process

the sample before shipping to lab. I've also heard of some hospitals

(not likely a children's hosptial) are less willing to ship to

some 'alternative' labs...Then all the drama of the draw would be for

nothing....HTH,

There is now way I will ever let a Dr. take me off TRT again. And what is sad

it's looking like I will need to find a new Dr. My Dr. is joining MDVIP and if I

want to keep seeing him it will cost me an extra $1500 to $1800 per yr. over and

above what I pay for my health care plain to see him.

I did a search about this it looks to me like it's a scam.
