DES in mid-70's

Hi, All

Here I am again " preaching " about DES...

As some of you know, I also am on the DES listserve. When I find

information that I think may be useful to someone here I will post

it. I have been reading the archives again and there are several

mentions of women being exposed to DES in the mid-70s. Apparently,

some doctors were still giving it to their patients after it was

taken off of the market. I just wanted to pass this one in case

there is anyone out there who is not sure if they were exposed or

not. If someone is exposed, they can file a lawsuit to help cover

the expense of DES-related medical problems, including infertility.

I think this also includes adoption and surrogacy expenses.

Also, there is the risk of cancer that, so far, is a life-long

threat. The current check for this in DES daughters is a

colposcopy. This is where they inspect the vagina and the cervix

and take a tissue sample. I had my first one done last week. It

took quite a bit more time, but it was no less pleasant than your

standard pap smear. The doctor said that everything checked out

okay. However, I will continue to have the test on an annual basis

as is recommended for DES daughters.

Okay, that is all for now. I think I'll go back to enjoying the

holidays and hope that all of you are, too!
