Guest guest
For those of you who have done/do ALA only, how do you divide up the capsules accurately? Most of the ones that I have seen are 50mg and 100mg. I was looking at the Kirkman's website for vitamins and noticed that they have ALA in a liquid base that has a slight flavor. I think the doses were calibrated down to 10mg per dose. Sounds a lot more convenient than measuring, mixing, etc. Does anyone have experience w/ this product, or good ideas for mixing? I have a horrible time getting anything into my son, so I need good ideas. Thanks, e

I just haven't taken the time to get it all written down. But, consider this example: mix 1- 100 mg capsule ALA with 10 teaspoons of water. Mix thoroughly and be sure it mixed in. Now measure out 1 teaspoon. That should be 10 mg. Mix it around again before measuring out the next teaspoon for the next dose. Etc. Please note that ALA can be mixed into water but DMSA needs to be treated more carefully -- see the info in same file. Moria
Guest guest
Kirkman's also sells a flavored DMSA but you have to call them and fax a prescription to them to get it. As far as how to divide them up accurately? Well, I'm sure it isn't totally accurate but it is working for us-- I just empty the 100 mg capsule out on to a plastic child's plate (I find the plastic allows the dmsa to " slide " better when I move it around) and I use a spatula to divide the pile in half, and then I divide each into five equal looking piles, so I get ten piles total. There is a prescription form of DMSA called Chemet which comes in a capsule, but each BEAD represents 1 milligram. SO there are 100 beads in the capsule-- if you are doing a 10 mg dose, you would separate out ten beads. That is probably more accurate than my spatula-dividing method, but I think Chemet costs more than Captomer.
