Splenda does not cause a rise in my blood sugar. Yes, it is chemically derived

from sugar, but it is a highly technical process. After MUCH ingestion splenda

over the years, I can personally attest that it does not cause a rise in my

blood sugar.

I think some people are confusing Splenda with sugar alcohols. Sugar alcohols

CAN cause a rise in blood sugars.

comment and ? on splenda

It is my understanding that splenda is made from sugar is that not correct?

Was wondering if anyone is testing after using and how you are doing. Can

anyone say yeah or nay why something made from sugar isnt as bad as sugar?

Not making judgments here just really want to understand.

I use strictly Splenda and products made with it. My numbers have never

been affected by it, not even a little. Let me get a bite of real

sugar... And BOOM off the scale my numbers go.

Hi Sharon,

I use Splenda in my oatmeal when I have that for breakfast. Two hours

later, bg's are 85. I drink hot tea sweetened with Splenda all afternoon and

into

evening hours and get normal readings. I eat yogurt sweetened with Splenda

and get normal readings.

Sharon,

That's a good question. And in fact my mom can't handle

Splenda. It jacks her sugars up every time tries to eat any of

it regardless of what it's in. When I mentioned this to the

nurse of the endocrinologist that she had at the time (in 2003)

the nurse said, " not possible " when it was indeed possible and

did happen.

I read an article once about the American Sugar Association

suing the maker of Splenda b/c of their claims about their

product. I haven't heard anymore about what had happened since

that article was done and this was about 6 months or so ago that

this article was written.

No, it is not possible. The chlorine bond is much too tight for

digestive juices to affect. Indeed, I drink >8 cans of diet Mountain

Dew every day and see no effect.

The problem is that the Splenda that we buy packaged is mostly sugar.

The sucralose is actually a minor component. It is so sweet that it

must be bulked up to be useable. Unfortunately they chose to use

dextrin (glucose) and maltodextrose (malt sugar). Worse, they

fraudulently choose a ridiculously small serving size so that they can

claim " less than 1 gram of carbs " . Technically, 0.999999 grams is

less than 1 but not practically.

The coffee packet Splenda is the worse of the two, containing both

dextrose and maltodextrose. Gram for gram, it raises my BG equal to

glucose tabs, only faster. Probably because it is a fine powder vs

the still large lumps in chewed glucose tabs.

The bulk packed (baking) Splenda leaves out the dextrose but is still

primarily maltodextrose. It also raises my BG the same as an equal

mass of glucose but not as fast.

I carry Splenda packets in my " diabetes assault pack " (butt bag)

primarily instead of glucose tabs because it works faster than tabs.

If it wasn't for splenda I wouldn't know what to do. It doesn't raise my BG's at

all. It is Made right near me and you would think it would be cheaper here but

not so. Tres
