I have a UU and am carrying twins. My cervix length was fine until 19

weeks. It measured 2.4cm or 24mm. My OB pulled me out of work and I

was but on bed rest. I can only get up to use the bathroom. This was

a little rough at first, but I've been hanging in there for 2 months.

If I had known then what I know now I would have insisted on a

cerclage. I feel I would have had more peace of mind. My cervix

measurement went up a little with bed rest, but since than my cervix

has shortened. Since most cerclages get put in place at 14 weeks,

this is not at option for me at this time. I go for a transvag us

every week. Last check my cervix measured 1.4cm or 14mm. Once you

reach 22 weeks you can have a FFN test done. I get a FFN done every

two weeks and so far I have tested negative. This has brought some

peace of mind, but I still feel I would have more peace of mind and

better quality of life if I had insisted on a cerclage.

AND Dena here. My wife is sitting beside me as I write this.

We went for the fetal anatomy today at 18.5 weeks. Everything looked

good and it is a boy. So we're sitting there waiting on the now

routine every 2-wk transvag us for the cervical length talking about

names, nursery changes, etc. Then when we get the tvus, the cervical

length is 25mm now (down from 30mm (we think it was 28mm at the last

check)). Doc comes in and is now talking about bedrest and

a " stitch " if the cervical length goes down to 20mm.

Dena's question is this: for those of you who have had a cerclage

that was non-elective, at how many millimeters and at how many weeks

was this done?

OK, we're a bit of a wreck tonight. It was a bit much to be excited

about the sex of the baby, to have that seem to be more and more real

after several years of infertility, then to feel this

vulnerability/fragility again.

Thanks ahead of time for being here.

I have a UU as well. I am just curious... What is the reason that

your cervix is shortening? Do you have an incompetent cervix or do

they say this is from your uterus? I'm not sure if I have an IC or

not. I lost my son at 24 weeks but I was not monitored properly

because I didn't know about my UU. So I guess you are about 27 weeks

now. That's great. I'm praying for you and your little ones. Do you

know their sex? I really respect what you are doing for your babies.

I can't even begin to imagine being on bedrest that long and I'm

probably headed down that same path.....

- just wanted to wish you good luck! Here's to another 4 or 6

weeks of bored bedrest for you and your babies! Thanks for your post,

I too had cerclage questions. What is FFN, by the way?

after my u/s and app't next week) bed-rester,
