Guest guest
Hi all, I remember several women on this board have been through placenta previa (low-lying placenta) in early pregnancy??? I went for my 11- week appointment today and it looks like that's why I've been having (MILD) bleeding/spotting-- the doc took a look and it seems I've got a mild case of placenta previa. I thought it was no big deal but a look around the Internet indicates it's not so great... even though most cases do " move up " as the uterus grows, I also read that a previous C-section increases the risk of long-term previa (and I just had a C-section last june). Anyway, would love to hear what women here know about low-lying placenta ... the doc told me " no sex " but didn't mention bedrest or even taking it easy. How long will it take to move up, if it's going to? (Heike, you had this, right?) Thanks, SU unfixed #2 due sept 16 #1 Ella Grace born june 13, 2003, full-term, no problems
Guest guest
, I had placenta previa with my son. He kicked a corner of his placenta off that is how we found out at 22 weeks. I was watched much more closely and by Maternal Fetal Medicine in addition to my own OB. I had u/s every two weeks. Which I find now surprising that no caught me t-shape before this past nov. As for what to do, we were told no sex but it was okay to do mild to moderate stuff. I could walk but had to give up aerobics and anything else too strenuous. My placenta by week 32 had moved up but just enough that I did not require a C-sec. My MFM doc was not that concerned about it. Told me that on the internet you will find all the worst case scenerios. I hope this helps. I had spotting all through the beginning of my pregnancy, and then heavy bleeding at 14 weeks. That is when I was diagnosed with a mild case of placenta previa. I stayed in bed for about 3 days, and the heavy bleeding stopped. After that I just took it very easy. By 19 weeks, all my spotting had stopped, and I had an ultrasound that showed the placenta had completely moved up into the normal position. After that I pretty much resumed regular activities, but I haven't let myself do anything too strenuous, and I haven't worked since I had the heavy bleeding. This is my first baby, so I am not sure if your having had a Cesarean will make a difference. Best wishes to you!
