Have you considered taurine, GABA or inositol. We've found all of them very

helpful. Inositol seems to go after the OCD behavior. Good luck.

Like you, we tried a lot of different things with my son. He became easily

obsessed and could not break away from many debilitating behaviors. I would

definitely try any supplements that parents here recommend. If you get to the

point where you exhaust them, as we did, then I would recommend trying something

like Celexa. I never wanted to go the med route, but Celexa definitely freed my

son of his OCD tendencies. After being on it for 1-1/2 years we successfully

weaned him off, with none of the behaviors returning.

I forgot to mention that Inositol has helped my son a lot, and I now use this in

place of the Celexa. I would give it a try.

This behavior sounds like my son exactly. He is only 4. Whats

interesting is that he doesnt do it at school. His classroom is

extremely structured, and they are consistent with their responce to his

behavior. I havent been as consistent at home. I also thought he needed

more of an outlet so he can perform higher at school, but I am mainly

talking about stims. We have tried inositol, but I have only given him

500mg a day so far. I think Andy said up to 6 grams. I do plan on

boosting the dose and see if it helps.

We had this problem with him getting into the fridge and helping

himself. He would open and slam the door. As soon as we said no, or shut

the door, he would run away and come back 2 seconds later to do it

again. I started saying " thats mine " and " thats mommas fridge " and gave

him a time out everytime he opened it. It did greatly reduce the

behavior. I also put a red stop sign on the door because he reads well,

and thats what they use at school. It did take a few days.

If you send her to school, you may want to look into their classroom

management, how compliant she is, and see if you can mimic that at home.

That in combo with the suppliments will help.

Are you using DMSA or ALA or both?

I would consider adding low dose zinc, especially if you are using ALA. Use

100% pure zinc, no additives.

Also, these behaviors sound like a possible yeast issue

My son always seems to get destructive when he has yeast issues.

Try adding GSE nutribiotic with each dose of chelation. Another

great product is monolaurin at www.lauricidin.com, start slow and

increase. Both of these products seem to help w/ a # of things and

are pretty cheap. I would also try to get her obsessed w/ something

safe. My son has a bathroom that he can make a mess of, he loves

smearing soap and playing in the water. He also has a big dirt hole

in the back yard for digging which he loves. I would take her to

target and let her pick something out. I would also check out

target for a microwave they had a # of them on end caps for very

cheap.

nne

into the chelation schedule

We have her on HNI enzymes, vit c, mg, multi mineral from kirkmans..

She cannot tolerate milk thistle we have taken away the vit b and

  • 4 years later...

hi my son (4 1/2 years old) sounds very similar to your daughter - I joke half

heartedly that everything in our house is broken... the couch, the entertainment

center, the walls, the sinks, cabinet doors, doors, metal doors, locks to doors,

door knobs, mirrors, floors, staircase, fans, lights, tv's, vcr/dvd players,

radio, books, you name it.  It is broken.

we're doing behavioral therapy, its been recommended to get his behavior under

control in the house first then " take it on the road " - to in the car or the

mall or well anywhere else.

its like one-two-three magic but on steroids.  there are family rules such as no

hitting people or destroying property, is one of the rules

under the plan he gets one warning to stop what he is doing (unless its a no

tolerance rule, such as hitting people or destroying property - that gets NO

warning just time out as he does not need a warning he already knows he cannot

do it)

at step two he gets a consequence " stop XYZ or you will be put in time out " (yes

its one minute per year of age and a timer is great)  OR " get your shoes on or I

will help you " and its help him hand over hand not do it for him - to make it

unpleasant for him to get help

and at step three " you did not do XYZ go to time out "

then when the timer goes off - see if they are calm and ready to discuss.  If

not - time out again.  When they are calm, they must be able to show that they

understand why they were in time out and know what they must do (or not do)

before they are allowed to come out.  Then they can come out and do what they

were expected to do.

its working here.
