Well said! Why is this kind of message on here? We are all trying to deal with

very serious autism issues here! Tim.

How about if we just ignore SPAM and junk mail, instead of getting worked up

about it? It's never going to go away; not without a great deal of effort.

Let's save our energy for our kids!

People post it.

If you want or need a discussion of what would be

involved in screening all mail, or screening all new

members, I can comment on how these work. They are

a trade-off, like most everything in life: there

is a cost and a benefit.

However, new members and posts are NOT screened

as it stands.

So people post.

Actually, I believe that particular one is SPAM that is going around. I've

been getting a lot of that in my inbox recently.

You can forward it to uce@... which is a site where they try to track

down and stop the SPAM abuse.

I don't know that it does much good, but at least I feel better knowing that

it's being reported.

You can also block messages from senders, but the problem with this sort of

email is that the people doing it generate new email addresses and then send

it out again.

Let's just think of this as comic relief and be glad that we ALL have " a

life... " Unfortunately, this is the downside of the free services that

provides. Without the free services, we probably wouldn't have a

newsgroup. Perhaps we should send the SPAM generators information on

abstinence and safe sex! Anyone work for the Health Department?

How come Christianity which sets God's rules for life is not allowed

on this list and this horrible garbage has a definite place on this

list? It is amazing how mean, repugnant, and immoral some people can

be. This type of message should have been erased immediately. Rose

It isn't allowed. New people just join and post it. It isn't a

matter of Gayness and Godliness being compared to decide which one is

better - some bad people just post on topics not related to the list

for their own selfish reasons and eventually get banned for it.

I would encourage the moderators to routinely delete the offending

posts and the threads that flow from them. I think this would make

everyone happier. Screening posts, however, would be insanely

overwhelmingly burdensome and I do NOT encourage that and hope nobody

else feels like they have a right to waste a's and Moria's lives

by demanding they do so. . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Correct, Andy! We all appreciate the work that goes into this group and

would expect that some of the detractors of free speech would apply as

it does elsewhere on the net. I routinely delete 100+ messages a day

without reading them - this type of SPAM is pretty much a daily

occurrence and nothing to get in a lather about. Thanks again, Andy,

Moria and a!

The reason that I explained " how this junk gets on the list "

is that 2 people posted to ask this, or to comment that

they did not understand how this could be on the list.

How it gets on the list is people post it. This has

nothing to do with whether the posts are relevant

or " have a place " here.

Having people understand how this happens makes it somewhat

less distracting (I hope!)

It is technically possible to have a list where spam

NEVER occurs, but it is a lot of work, and it has some

other downsides as well.

While I really dislike spam on the list, and I DO think

it is distracting, it is also very obvious that it is

not relevant to the list topic(s), and generally it does

not result in ongoing disruption or upset to other

list content and discussion.
