Guest guest Posted August 16, 2004 Report Share Posted August 16, 2004 The only problems that I've had from the storms is that with the barometric pressure so low, my neuropathy in my hands and feet were at their worst...felt like every single nerve ending was dancing...and not dancing happy tunes. They have settled down a little bit but not much. It is still bad but not as bad as the end of the last week. I'm hoping for better times while we are on vacation. Maybe a little extra rest will help. I've finally gotten the extra furniture shipped to GA to my son and DIL and in the process of clearing out those pieces and reorganizing a few other things, I have about 10 boxes of things to be picked up tomorrow morning for the women's club bazaar which is held in January. Don't worry, Christy...I've saved out some fabric for you. If I could have gotten some help from that other person that resides here...he keeps claiming that his back hurts, his whatever hurts....etc...etc. Meanwhile, you know what I would like to help him do. We leave tomorrow for NC to spend a week at my Mom's. I have a feeling that something is going on different with her health. I had a call from my brother last night about something he had found and was sending to her and wanted me to read that seemed to resemble her symptoms and he wanted me to try to get her to a doctor. We are then going to be going to GA to see our son who has moved to Rome...but we are staying in Villa Rica...that's close to Carrollton, isn't it, ? I think I remember seeing it on the map when we were planning our trip. Then we are going on to Hot Springs, AK. Our plans were to then come back down the western side of Florida but that seems like we may be able to make some stops up in the panhandle but certainly won't be quite the same trip itenirary. We're supposed to get the tail end so I'm expecting alot of heavy rain...but we've had alot of rain all summer...but nothing more here) 3) my allergies and asthma are acting up plus I was in the casino smoke for a couple of days so I'm sure my O2 levels are down, 4) I only slept 3 hours the night before we left and then was up later than usual on Friday, too and 5) hmmmm, I had a 5 a minute ago...LOL Anyway, got in the hottub as soon as we got home plus was taking pills for breakthrough pain the whole time plus my lungs are now in the process of getting rid of the stuff that's been plugging them up so I'm feeling somewhat better today...not back to my normal, but better. BUT I know I brought it on myself and I went into the trip with eyes wide open and having made the decision that the trip (we went with both sets of parents, BTW) was worth it, and it was. Apparently their friends' house is OK....I forgot to ask but I think I remember that it's in the Port Charlotte area. Kathy trip I'm back from our trip, we had a blast. When I can get to my paperwork I will tell you where we are staying in Hot Springs. We are at my Mom's and she is getting more feeble. Her only request when I got her was that I plan and do the cooking and she would do the cleanup...including that she wanted to do her own sweeping of the kitchen afterwards (as in no one can do it quite like she can). She has neuropathy so bad that she should be using a walking instead of just a cane but of course she is as stubborn as I am. Jim and I did shopping yesterday and I came home and quickly tried to assemble a dinner meal (noontime) which required me to stand on my feet for most of an hour. My dear husband who claims that he does so much cooking in Florida sat on his behind and did nothing and by the time I got everything on the table, I had a nice meal but my legs were mostly numb or screaming with pain from the mid-thighs down due to the sciatica or neuropathy. Needless to say, I saw all of the Olympics last night and more of the night besides because I couldn't get comfortable. I even managed to mis-program the microwave and blow up my heating pad (I heated it for 5 minutes instead of 2 and you can imagine what that did...smelled like burned popcorn). Guess we'll have to resort to hotdogs today for dinner ( I can't get used to calling the noontime meal "dinner"...guess we did when I was growing up but that was a loooooooong time ago) plus lots of side dishes. Doesn't your mother have a stool in the kitchen? I know you get used to cooking standing up, but alot of it can, in fact be done sitting. I peel my veggies while sitting. I'm ready for bed or a vacation" is what you need to keep in mind. Please don't overdo it. Perhaps Jim is trying to tell you that by not doing anything to encourage you to do more. We all know that we "overdo" everything even when it isn't really necessary. We'd all like to "do" more in life but we have to keep things into perspective if we aren't going to exhaust ourselves into worse health. At one time she was the same way about A/C also but we put it in and she really enjoys it. Guess we'll just put in the DW and overrule her. We put in county water and she has adjusted to it and finally has been drinking it (after about 18 months of doing switchbacks to well water to draw off gallons of well water to drink). It is so hard to teach an old dog new tricks. She does have a crock pot and I've used it since I've been here but I've still had to get everything else ready and Jim hasn't even made ice or filled the glasses. Boy, is he going to pay for it when we get to our condos for the next couple weeks of vacation. My legs are killing me. He wonders why I don't feel like going out and playing. I was even out trimming trees today (so they would scrap cars coming into the yard)...I asked him to help...but once again he didn't even come into the yard to see if he could help carry off all the trash. Tomorrow and Thurs. it's doctor appt's for my Mom. I don't know who would be filling in if I weren't here. I'm ready for bed or a vacation. LOL Jane RE: trip Jane - Are you going to Hot Springs, Arkansas?? If so how are you going into it?? I'm a little over 5 hours from there, with you living in FL it seems such a short distance to say 5 hours. lol But I know would do the big whine if I asked him to drive me there so I could meet you. I'm ready for bed or a vacation" is what you need to keep in mind. Please don't overdo it. Perhaps Jim is trying to tell you that by not doing anything to encourage you to do more. We all know that we "overdo" everything even when it isn't really necessary. We'd all like to "do" more in life but we have to keep things into perspective if we aren't going to exhaust ourselves into worse health. Guest guest Posted August 26, 2004 Report Share Posted August 26, 2004 My brothers and I have been trying to get my Mom to move in with my older brother who built his house specifically with the idea that it would have 2 identical master bedrooms (one of both the main and second floor...they use the main floor unless she decides to come to stay with them permanently). She has said that she doesn't want to butt into my SIL's retirement years because she has worked for so many years and she thinks that she deserves to have these years to herself; however, has said on numerous occasions that she would love to have her come because she would be great company. 's brother took her father in for 20 years so this is custom in her family. My other brother would love to have her with him but his house is not so adaptable plus both he and his wife travel frequently at the same time. My Mom has actually said that she might come to Florida to stay with us for a few weeks this winter. I would be happy to have her but it will be a tight squeeze space wise because we have just the 2 bedrooms, both with twin beds but we will manage if she will come. Time will tell what winter will bring but she has said she isn't sure that she can stay by herself all winter this year. Her mind is failing for sure on things that we used to say that she was like a human computer. Jim and I are planning on leaving tomorrow morning before breakfast.
