Guest guest
I've taken a break from learning about surrogacy - gestational and otherwise. I guess I know just enough to be dangerous now. Someone mentioned in one of the posted I read tonight (Alma perhaps?) legal issues with surrogacy in Texas. My state - Washington - has some laws on the books that in effect " criminalize " surrogacy, but this doesn't mean that it's not happening here and it doesn't mean that it's illegal. It just means that you can't contract to pay a surrogate a fee. I too don't have a family member or friend who is able to offer to carry a child for us which does make a humungous difference, but I certainly don't rule it out. Having your own surrogate in mind sure seems like it could make a significant difference financially. In any case, it's an expensive option, but those of you who have gone through IVF no that that's not at all cheap. I am completely prepared to pursue adoption - with the hope of someday have a second child as well by whatever means possible - but my DH is not comfortable with adoption. I don't have a legal background (just some lawyer relatives I run things by) so my understanding of surrogacy in that states that are " less supportive " is largely my own interpretation. Just don't give it up too quickly if you think that's the course that best suits your dreams. - J.
