Guest guest
Carbonated beverages HELP with digestion??? This is the first time I've ever heard such a thing. I've always been told that we should stay away from carbonated drinks because they can stretch our pouches. As the weather temps increase I really miss my diet pop but I don't want to mess up the weight I've lost! I am curious about what others have heard. I know a couple people that drink diet pop (very small amounts) but I've mostly heard negative comments about it. and Patty, can you give us more info on what you've heard about it being okay? Thanks!!! I was talking with my Aunt who is going to be having surgery on the 8th and she told me about this. I was under the impression that if you didn't chew ... you throw it up or wait. Thanks in advance for your help. > > Vandever > LAP RNY 4-6-04 > 305/256/165 > >
Guest guest
You need to remember everyone is different, you and I could have the same doctor and what works for you may not work for me and vice-versa. After my surgery I was throwing up every morning, it wasn't normal, it was bile. I suffered several complications, one was a small bowel obstruction, which required a hospital stay and two enemas, so anything that helps the food break-down is one in my book. Guest guest
Dear laurette, My surgeon has his list of 9 rules for his patients to follow. One of the rules, no carbonated beverages. In my research of gastric bypass surgery, I came across a study that was done on the habits of successful gastric bypass patients, who had lost their weight and kept it off. One of the habits is no carbonated beverages! They also did a study of people who regained their lost weight, you guessed it....they drink carbonated beverages. Do what you will, but is it worth possibly streching your pouch, over a diet soda? Good luck! Ellen very greatful surgery 3/15/04 440/375/???? 65 lbs lost in the 10 weeks !!!! Woopie!!! Subject: Re: Re: Coca-Cola Question I've been told by my surgeon and his staff that we can have diet pop after the carbonation settles. They suggest we let it sit for about 10 minutes before drinking it. I've given up my diet coke. I'd prefer not to have it sit and drink it warm. I usually drink diet sprite or 7up mixed with fruit juices or even gatorade. The pop gives them a little kick. So far I haven't had any trouble as long as I let it sit for a bit. I've also starting drinking diet fago which isn't too bad. Laurette 4/23/04 St. Charity, Cleveland, Ohio 309/290@surgery/265/???
