Guest guest
Hi Becky, The last time I checked, the milk chocolate and vanilla " melts " were GF. I have also used some of the other colored ones, which were also GF at the time, but that was a while ago. You can email Wilton and they should be able to give you a list, or an answer. I have always had good success and responses from them. I make those candy mold thingies a lot. In fact, I probably have about 30 or more of the plastic sheets of molds. They are fun & easy to make... and are always a big hit with the kids. In fact, I have used 2-4 bags of the " melts " (and melted them in a crock pot on the low setting and stir often), and then when they are all melted... I pour them into a large metal Wilton cake mold (the ones that have characters such as Blues Clues, Scooby Doo, etc.). Then I put it in the fridge to " set " for 30 minutes or longer. A few things to remember... when using a metal wilton cake mold with the candy melts... 1) lightly spray the pan with non-stick cooking spray before pouring in the " melts " 2) once your pour in the softened " melts, " you need to gently tap the pan on the counter constantly for 30-60 seconds so the air bubbles will rise to the top and " pop " so you won't have a finished project that is full of air pockets/bubbles. 3) I have found that it is best to pop the pan into the fridge so the chocolate " melts " can set. Once they set, you have to sort of quickly pop out the shape onto a flat surface. (it's kind of like working with large jello molds, if you've ever done that). If there are any " imperfections " in your finished product, you can take your finger or a small paintbrush and dab it in a little bit if warm water and then smooth out any imperfections. 4) These are GREAT options for events that would traditionally need a " cake. " You can also decorate these, but they turn out so cute as it. When you use the regular wilton candy molds.... 1) you also need to " tap " the molds on the counter for 30-60 seconds after the melts have been poured in... this will help get rid of those air bubbles. 2) I have found that the plastic wilton candy molds do no need to be spsprayed with non-stick cooking spray as they are somewhat flexible and you can twist and turn them a bit (as you do with plastic ice cube trays) to get the molds to release. However, with the wilton metal pans.. you can't " twist " those to release the finished product, so using the non-stick cooking spray is ESSENTIAL with that method. I have also used the wilton candy molds that are designed to make " lollipops " , just buying those little wilton sticks, etc. Okay... I have to admit, that sometimes I get a bit " Martha - sh " with these GF chocolate lollipop things that I make and will cover them with cute small cellophane bags, and secure with a cute metallic twist tie... and then will buy one of those cone shaped pieces of styrofoam (found at Micheal's Arts & Crafts, etc.) and then will display all the GF chocolate lolliopops to make a huge lollipop tree. I do this sometimes for parties, school events, holidays, etc. Here are some of the ones I have that I use the most... Anchors US NAVY SEAL Surface Navy Insignia Bunnies Seashells Sailboats Starfish Baby Shower Theme (rattles, diaper pins, etc.) Valentine Hearts Truffles Candy Mold Stars Lighhouses Trees Thanksgiving (Turkeys, etc.) Clovers Good luck! Guest guest
Melonie, I just read this again. All I can picture you doing is pouring 4 bags worth of melts into a standard sized character cake pan. Am I picturing this correctlyl?? What on earth would you do with such a huge chunk of candy??? I mean, I certainly could think of several things I would do witha big blob of candy like that, but I know I would not let my kid loose on it! ;-0 Bridget From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ] On Behalf Of mayaandpacoSent: Monday, October 03, 2005 2:39 PMTo: SillyYaks Subject: Re: Wilton's lollipop candy molds > > Does anyone know if the Wilton candy molds are gf? Guest guest
Hey Bridget, I pour the bags of candies into a crockpot and then heat them on the low setting so they melt.... Once they melt, then I pour them into the large character mold. It is like one mammoth piece of chocolate... meant to serve as a " cake " sort of replacement. Once it's time to eat that beast, you just break off pieces (as you would with large chunks of fudge) or you whip out a Ginsu knife, Henkels knife, or cheap-o equivalent, and try to cut into pieces. By that point, the " wow " factor of the cute huge chunk of chocolate shaped like a cartoon character is over... and everyone just wants to have some. I originally thought about doing this when I was trying to think of a (GF) replacement for those large huge cookies (the size of a pizza pan) that you can order at most malls for birthday parties... so I came up with the jumbo " chocolate " candy bar. Also, you can order jumbo personalized Hershey chocolate bars (which are GF) and they can be personalized. It's kind of a spin-off on that too. You can order those from the Hershey's website. Also, you can order M & M's with an imprint on them (which are GF too).. and those are bought by the pound. Cute idea for GF wedding " favors. Guest guest
Hi Bridget, I suppose I'm all about trying to make food " fun " for the kids, and enticing.... whether it is making food fun by making it in silly shapes, etc., or taking a hot dog and cutting from the end toward the middle (and stopping there) and doing it several times.... then take the hot dog and sit it upright... so that it looks like an octopus... and plop it right on top of some GF mac & cheese... a simple and fun little meal for kids... with some veggies or fruit of course... Yes, I'm the goonie mom that cuts " ghost " shapes into the kids sandwiches during the week of Halloween, etc.... take care Bridget & thanks for all your input on the SY board... Guest guest
Hi, We are a family with multiple food issues and this is the first Halloween that we've been GF etc. I was planing on ordering some lollipops from College Farm but they seem $$$. I think I'm going to make homemade lollipops with my dd. I found a couple recipes on line and I thought I could make some modifications using organic sugar and fruit juice instead of artificial flavors. Has anyone made hard candy/lollipops before? Thanks, Kristi __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com
