Guest guest
I am a recent addition to this group and am really glad I have joined. After only a few days, I have seen how supportive the members are to each other and informative being a member can be! I have a 2 1/2 year old son, , with Marshall's Syndrome. He has mild to moderate bilateral hearing loss and has worn hearing aids from 2 months old. He also is severely nearsighted has worn contacts from 4 months old. was 1 year old before he was diagnosed with his syndrome – it was a very difficult year leading up to this. But once we had the “diagnosis” we would at least move forward and had some idea as what to expect. My husband and I also have a hearing son who is 5 * years old. does see a teacher from Area Education Agency every two weeks in our home. Overall, he is doing great, but behind in his speech and does understand most of what is said to him, although he does have tantrums, where he will hit himself – most of these are because he does not like to hear the word “No”! Other times I am sure this is because he just does not know how to communicate the proper words. The only sign we have taught him is “more”, although I feel I should be doing additional signing . . . I could go on and on, but I should probably wrap things up with my question --- I would be interested in some feedback from other parents -- will turn 3 this summer and it coming close to the time to develop his plan for attending an Early Learning Preschool (this is a public preschool for children with special needs) in the fall. I know that every child is different, but I would like to hear from other parents regarding how many days their child was sent and how it worked for them. I work part-time and will have Tuesdays and Thursdays off. My husband and I really want me to be the one to take him and drop him off and if he went two days that would be possible (the 2 1/2 days that I work he would attend an at home daycare). If he went the available 4 days, he will need to go to a big daycare (two of the 4 days) and take the early learning bus to and from school. I just feel in my heart he is too young for this and it may overwhelm him a bit. On the other hand I want to utilize the speech assistance as much as possible. As you can see I am anxious to complete the paperwork and develop his plan - but just thought I would see what worked for other parents! Thanks!
