Guest guest
Hey Hannah, I have just been wondering about sending a note about the same thing. For the last couple of days I've had hiccups, coughing attacks and burping for no real reason. I don't develop a headache from them, however it does seem to make it a little stronger if the hiccups are strong. I have also noticed that it's a somewhat positional problem with the burping. When I lean forward or stoop for some reason I'll have a fullness sensation in my throat and then I'll burp. The cough comes on for no reason other than I feel a very light tickle in my throat. Then I cough and it doesn't seem to want to stop, but then goes away. So I'm not the only one experiencing this strange side effect. I was wondering if this was some how related to swallowing problem? in wi. liquidgrl2002 wrote: > > I have had hiccups for 3 days off and on, I get them 2-3 times a month > sometimes less sometimes more, and I get very very bad headaches from > them, I noticed my heart racing first this time and wonder if it could > possibly be related....Peopl say " I have never seen anyone get > hiccups sooften " Anyone know what this is about if it's related or I > am paranoid now? " It makes sense that if we have compression of that area, we are more prone to hiccups. When my pressure is elevated (prior to shunt revision), I had a ton of hiccups. They'd give me a headache..... Guest guest
When my husband had decompression surgery in January he developed a case of almost constant hiccups. The nurse told us it was the steroids and, sure enough, when the steroids stopped, the hiccups stopped. Just wanted to let all the pre-surgery members know not to be concerned post-surgery if this happened to them. Alice - Wife of , ACM 15mm, SM, Surgery 1/8/02 Dallas Re: Hannah's Horrible Hiccups After my surgery in August 2000 for a subarrachnoid shunt, I had horrible, unrelenting hiccups for several days. I was told it was due to the swelling and trauma in the brain. They offered me the medication Thorazine- besides being an antipsychotic medication, it can be used for horrible hiccups. I decided to stick it out and see if it went away on its own. It did eventually. in NY > > I have had hiccups for 3 days off and on, I get them 2-3 times a month > > sometimes less sometimes more, and I get very very bad headaches from > > them, I noticed my heart racing first this time and wonder if it could > > possibly be related....Peopl say " I have never seen anyone get > > hiccups sooften " > > In looking up hiccups I came across a site that discussed their origin: > > " A hiccup is a neurological reflex, which involves the phrenic or vagus > nerves and the medulla of the brain.
