Guest guest
> What is your area EMS going to do > for EMS week this year? We do a weekend getaway for all public-health and public-safety workers. Everyone, including friends and spouses, is invited. This is a big campout where we sit around the fire to discuss our professional and private lives with colleagues and friends alike. All egos are subject to removal because everyone is invited and everyone is equal. First responders, volunteers and paid personnel come to rub shoulders, visit with and learn from some of the top names in EMS education, from Texas and around the world. There are 14 hours worth of EMS continuing education credits available. There is the Texas EMS Educator's Summit, an all day event where the educators learn from each other and share the newest and greatest teaching and learning techniques. We hold the only official chili competition for Texas EMS, known as the Gene Weatherall Memorial Chili Cook-Off. This year we are staging the first ever skills competition for Texas EMS-a half-day event where teams from any service may pit skills against all comers. The competition is sponsored by PHI Helicopters, Philips Medical and the Zoll Corp., and is hosted by Montgomery County Hospital District's Dr. Jay Kovar, and by TechPro Services. The winners receive Gold, Silver or Bronze medals and a year of free on-line continuing education provided by eGenesis. There is booty to be had. All day Friday and Saturday we draw for gate prizes (can't be door prizes 'cause there ain't no door!), including EMS textbooks (some autographed by the authors) and various EMS gear. Just for being there you will get a certificate for some free on-line CE by eGenesis. Then Saturday afternoon you get to bid in a live auction for all kinds of stuff, like a Zoll AED Plus, an ergonomic dispatcher's chair, training mannequins, gear bags and more textbooks. This is a time to take home the bargains! For the evenings we invite bands and comedians to perform live on our stage. Texas EMS folks need to unwind and de-stress at times, and this is just the trick. Friday night we have two Texas Music bands, then on Saturday we have Kinky Freidman doing his own brand of Texas comedy, followed by the Nightcrawlers playing rock, jazz and blues into the night We picked EMS week to hold this event because EMS is what it is all about. We call our little event The Gene Weatherall Memorial EMS Reunion and Chili Cook-Off, but most folks just call it EMStock. This will be our 4th year and I sure hope you'll come. The event dates are May 20, 21 and 22. Cost at the gate is $20.00 per person, and it is well worth it. Hope to see you there. www.EMStock.com pio@... bstafford@...
