Accuracy of Meters

Hi all,

I was wondering about something... do many of us use TWO meters as a

matter of course and compare the readings between them? I've noticed

that I can test using my OneTouch Basic and UltraSmart using the

same blood spot and get quite different readings... I actually

prefer to trust the Basic as it uses a bigger blood sample and takes

a reassuring 45 seconds to come up with a 'magic' number.

What puzzles me is that for those people who place a lot of weight

and importance behind what their meters tell them, particularly Type

1s, shouldn't meter manufacturers be going out of their way to make

these things as accurate as possible? I wouldn't expect two meters

(and from the same manufacturer) to read different by like 10-15

mg/dl, but they do.

Given that we poke enough holes in ourselves everyday it would be

nice to know that the 'numbers' we get told are accurate. Or should

we now expect to have to take 2 or 3 readings at one time, using

different meters, and then average them out, just to be on the safe

side :)

Does anyone else have any thoughts?
