My grandfather was a German soldier and somehow (it's never been discussed) my mother was able to leave Germany when she was 16. She married my dad when she was 18 (he was in the US Navy) and the rest of her family was able to come over then. Surprisingly, I haven't read either of those. Anne is enough to do me in.

Here's Hitlers family tree. I've done genealogy for years and this is confusing to me. lol Looks like siblings and cousins married each other.

http://worldwarll.www4.50megs.com/ahlife.htm here's more on Hitlers life.

He married Ava (Eva?) Braun. I'm pretty sure that's right. My son has his biography "Mein Kampf", and I'd like to read it. Has anyone ever taken the time to read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich"? Its a big book, boring in parts, but interesting.

Now if this isn't a change of conversations? lol

I guess her father knew it was getting bad and wanted to get her out while he had a chance. I'd do the same in a heartbeat. Have you ever researched it??

hmmm, I love digging to try to find dead ends. It gives me something to concentrate on other than I'm hurting. lol My daughter has me working on Zaiden's paternal side. We know he's Choctaw thru a (with roll numbers), I've found hints that the paternal side may be Cherokee with roll numbers. I'm still digging on that. Alot of reading to find native american lines, a lot!!

Well you just let me know when you have spare time and you can dig into the Kunzingers. I actually found a web list one time of some Kunzingers and when we started emailing, I found out that his line was my Grandfather's brother but that's as far as either of us could get going backwards! I've done my father's line all the way back to the early 1600's so I wasn't slacking. It just was not there. Not in the places I know to look but I haven't touched the genealogy for ages now. I still get occasional emails from people who happen across my website that lists all of my ancestors but I honestly don't think I could get in to make changes if I had to LOL

They (Eva Braun, BTW) got married in the bunker immediately prior to committing suicide.

I knew his parents were cousins.

LOL--I read alot about him when I was younger, but it's been re-enforced by the history channel. Great believer in the "those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it" thing.

2 TOUGH QUESTIONS

Question 1:

If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had

syphilis, would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before looking at the response for this one.

Question 2:

It is time to elect a new world leader, and only your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three candidates.

Candidate A.

Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologist. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.

Candidate B.

He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whiskey every evening.

Candidate C.

He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and never cheated on his wife. Which of these

candidates would be your choice? Decide first... no peeking, then scroll down for the response.

Candidate A is lin D. Roosevelt.

Candidate B is Winston Churchill.

Candidate C is Adolph Hitler.

And, by the way, on your answer to the abortion question: If you said YES, you just killed Beethoven.

Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging someone.

Wait till you see the end of this note! Keep reading...

Never be afraid to try something new.

Remember: Amateurs...built the ark.

And finally, can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:

* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse

* 7 have been arrested for fraud

* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks

* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses

* 3 have done time for assault

* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit

* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges

* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting

* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits

* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...

Can you guess which organization this is?

Yep--his tree--and many European trees of that time-the branches are tangled, LOL

I've read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" years ago and found it very interesting.

There are alot of interesting books out there about his interest in the mystical stuff, too. One I especially found interesting is called "the spear of destiny", can't remember who wrote it, about his search for various religious artifacts--well the book is specifically about his search for the spear that pierced Jesus's side one the cross. He felt possession of these artifacts, particularly the spear, would give him the power he needed for the thousand year reign.

His evil makes for very interesting reading.

Oh! About the family tree--for those of you who do genealogy I know you are aware of this, but others may find it interesting....

They mention on the link sent about many of the children being illegitimate or born only a few months after the marriage of their parents---I've found in my research that this isn't very uncommon. I think there must have been every bit as much pre-marital sex then as there is now, people just ignored it and pretended not to notice when a kid was born 3 or 4 months premature. I think it really wasn't an issue until the n era. In fact many times way back a man didn't marry a woman until he was sure that she could bear children since in many cases divorce was illegal.

But even after that I've noticed , especially in census records, that the birth years and the marriage years were the same or the marriage the year after. In some cases, of course, it's an error by the census taker--they were every bit as sloppy then as now, LOL.

Of course census records are really only guideposts--they give you names and approximate dates and places but for a truly accurate record you need to confirm the info with church records, Bible records, birth and death and marriage certificates, etc. In other words--census records are good enough for we amateur genealogists but not really accurate research.

Sorry I've gone on so long, LOL---I work on my research daily and it's a pet subject and passion of mine.

Christy--have you read the new unedited version of Anne 's diary? Apparently when her father first published it he edited out alot of what you typically find in teenaged diary's--you know the "I can't stand my parents" stuff. The rest was released after his death.I haven't read it yet

Christy--how old are your parents? Just curious because I know you're closer to Kayly's age than mine and when my parents were 16 the war was long over.

My German ancesters (which is a very high percentage of my ancestors) came over in the early 1800's and some way before that. Some of them came because Prussians were confiscating land.

One of my way back ancestors in Germany was a sculptor whose work can still be seen in various churches--I 'm having a brain fart and can't think of his name right now--not that anyone would have heard of him , he was famous for his time but not an historical figure.

And isn't it exciting when you find the next step? LOL

I just recently, after years of research, found the way past my gr-gr-grandfather Haverstick and also finally was able to find the names of my gr-gr-gr grandparents and an article on their drowning which I was beginning to think was a family myth.

We're probably boring the others, but this is my very favorite thing, LOL My research now expands so far in either direction that it has become more generally historical than just family history.

Christy--what is your website? I love reading the family websites even if they aren't relatives of mine.

BTW---We have been looking for Kayly's bio-grandparents for years. (her father was adopted). We have the name but have been unable to find her grandmother.

Soooo--if anyone comes across or knows a Thelma Radtke who was in Chicago at the time of Rick's birth in 1952 please let us know. Kayly has more info on her, but I lost it went my old computer went.
