Hi Arthur

I've been very curious about this same thing...so I've been watching the

responses. Do you have any idea what the etiology of your child's loss is?

I'm

not sure if there's a link between ongoing loss and certain causes or not

(anyone know?) But one thing I'm seeing now as we get f/up reports from

various

sources is that my daughter's mild loss (we were told verbally it was mild)

is in the good ear. The bad ear looks to be more in the moderate range. It

also seems that there are different tables for where mild stops and moderate

starts...I've seen that moderate can start from 30 db up and in other charts

it's 40 db and up. So for us anyway, as we deal with just now finalizing a

total loss (ABR at the end of the month), it appears that things can also vary

depending on who does the reading, what their interpretation is, and what chart

they're going off of. And because booth testing can sometimes be somewhat

subjective depending on testers and child's frame of mind, seems like results

can vary here too....I'll be interested in seeing what others have to say.

Take care

Leigh

hi there Leigh,

I know that if CMV(Cytomegalo virus) is the cause then

quite often the hearing is progressively lost over a period of time. In my

daughters case though it was from birth but not detected until she was 1yr.

I hope this helps.

Mandy.
