" I have read that sprouts from gluten grains are safe, that the grass (sprouts) don't yet contain the offending protein and that seems logical. HOWEVER, I disagree based on personal experience. I have had a gluten reaction from ingesting wheat grass. I was still on a strict elimination diet and it is the ONLY new thing I had added w/i the past 3 days. So, I *know* it was the wheat grass. I stopped eating it and began to feel better immediately.

Guest guest
I hadn't previously heard of Wheat Grass, but would steer clear of anything with the word wheat, etc., in it unless it is accompanied with the words Gluten free! Anyone who sells, or wants to - to Celiacs - I hope are aware of that.. Sorry if talking out of place, been preoccupied lately with problems with hubby's organization, so haven't been able to stay on top of all emails.. HUGSCleo Re: growing sprouts in the house > I have had a gluten reaction from ingesting wheat grass. I'm not familiar with the term wheat grass, but it has been mentioned twice here in the last two days (in the emails I read). Is 'wheat grass' the same thing as sprouts from wheat berries? Or is it something else? I'm very confused. Then again, I'm easily confused. :-)Esther in RI - CD/LC

Guest guest
Yes, same thing. Many of these " sprouts " look like grass. Actually a common ground cover grass for a yard is RYE. Guest guest
Yikes , is there something else in there your reacting to though as well as gluten? Guest guest
I agree with . I also had a terrible reaction to a dietary drink supplement that was supposed to be GF, but contained wheatgrass. My father's (celiac) dietician told me to not eat wheatgrass, period. It makes me mad that these products are marketed as GF when so many people react to wheatgrass. What on earth is the point of trying to introduce this so called " healthy " food (to celiacs) when in all likelihood, we might be introducing small amounts of gluten (or possible gluten) into our diets? To me, the danger far outweighs any benefit. Molly --- Fredricks wrote: > Nope.
