Guest guest
Hi had another bone density scan this week. It showed that whilst her whole body remained about the same (z score of - 1.8), her AP spine had reduced to a z score of -0.50 which was a 5.5% reduction in bone density from a year ago, and the Fem neck reduced to a z score of -1.31 which was a -3.7% reduction from a year ago. So it looks like I need to increase her calcium a bit. What I found really interesting were her body mass figures. A year ago she weighed 53Kg, with Lean Mass 27002g, Fat Mass 23896g so total body fat = 45% This week she weighed 52Kg, with lean mass 23606g, Fat Mass 25286g so total body fat = 49% So even though she lost 1Kg, her lean body mass reduced by 3.4Kg and Fat mass increased by 1.4 Kg Does this mean she is burning body protein rather than body fat? If so, why would this be so when she has plenty of fat to spare? She did have a problem a couple of months ago when she was having early morning seizures along with high bsl and lowered ketones. This resolved when I slightly increased her nighttime calories. Could these problems be related? Many thanks Jill
