Nan,

Jill has had 2 ERG's. One when she was 5 and one last year at age 12. It is not overly pleasant for the kids. They do put some local freezing in the eye so they are not too bothered by the contacts but Jill still did not like the proceedure. I'm sure if you are there to give lots of reassurance, it will help. One thing to warn you about is how it looks. It didn't bother me but if you are squeamish about medical things the contacts can look unsettling. They are contacts with wire coming out of them which are connected to the equipment. I also had one done myself. When Jill had her first ERG we did not know she had mito but knew she has retina damage so bother her father and I had the test to see if there was anything going on with our retinas. It felt uncomfortable but not painful. Hope this is helpful.
