Guest guest
<< I am a teacher and was wondering if we do IVF, would our chances be better if I wait until the summer. Less stress and worry.>> Hi Gail, From what I have learned, stress and worry have little effect on IVF outcomes (barring extreme stress, such as, say, starvation, I would guess). I remember that a friend cited a study that claimed to show that stress actually enhanced conception. Who knows? The best times for conception seem to be fall and winter, especially winter, statistically speaking, though the boost is not *that* great. << It is just the waiting that I cant stand.>> I know . . . :-/ <<My re said that he would only transfer one embie. Is that the norm?>> Not the norm for IVFs done in the United States; I think three is. But imho, transferring only one embryo to a woman with a Müllerian anomaly is prudent. Several of us here on the list have carried twins, but it is a less-than-ideal situation, since most of us have less space available for multiples. Transferring one will reduce the odds of pregnancy per cycle, but it is still much less of a crap shoot than IUI. <<How important is being off of your feet after the procedure? Does it help?>> As with IUI, I think it can't hurt if you take the day off and rest, after all the blood, sweat, toil and expense of infertility treatment. Some women take two weeks off to rest in bed! In my opinion, and based on evidence, that isn't necessary. Even sexual intercourse will not dislodge a little embryo once it has begun to implant in the uterine lining; they are tough little buggers. The same friend who said that stress doesn't hurt and might help said that she went to Home Depot and hoisted quite a few boxes of floor tiles an hour after the transfer that produced her son. She had had four other IVFs (usually they work before this) and was so pessimistic that she declined to rest. She was so sure that it had not worked that she even smoked a pack of cigarettes. But it did work in spite of her pessimism and incaution. <<In the mean time has anyone ever tried fertility blend, ovulex or any other herbs that might make my little eggies grow?>> I'm a proponent of Vitex. It seemed to make me ovulate earlier and reinforce the luteal phase. Others here have used it, too. Check out what we said with an archives search! Hope everything goes well for you with IVF, and that athe stress of going through it pays off very well for you. -- Beth SU, resected x
