Guest guest
Good Morning Londa I was diagnosed in well.. August.. 2000.. so I'm 9 years dx'd now.. history states at least 10 years prior.. I'm also 51 next month... never ever thought in a million years that 16 would turn into 50 that quickly... Started on Avonex.. had issues.. but continued for 4 years.. neuro wouldn't take me off.. he changed it from RRMS to either Relapsing Progressive or Progressive Relapsing.. can't remember which.. always get them confused.. he wouldn't say SPMS even when asked... but I suspect had he taken the Relapsing out of there, he would have also had to withdraw the Avonex.. which he wasn't about to do.. even when I told him after 4 years I was STILL having the side-effects.. and taking WAY WAY WAY too much Advil to just get through a normal 24-36 hour flu-like days.. (otherwise it would have been 6 days).. I took myself off the stuff and didn't go back to see him until 2006... MRI then showed new lesions bilaterally.. and he said I HAD to be on something.. I asked him to suggest something.. he ticked off what I wouldn't do.. lol.. and came up with Copaxone... and I said BINGO... that's what I asked you for a couple of years ago.. and you wouldn't hear of it... (There was absolutely NO literature on Copaxone in his office.. mostly ALL Avonex.. some Rebif a little Betaseron.. but the preponderance was Avonex..). Got my MRI from him.. and a crap load of attitude.. and decided that I was ready for the Pittsburgh trips if need be... got into the group with Dr. Heyman.. saw my neuro in that group once.. didn't make my 4 month appointment (, my significant other, works for a funeral home.. easy to make appointments, sometimes hard to keep those made appointments)... but I was doing just fine.. been on Copaxone since October 2006... started walking again without a cane.. (two weeks into beginning the injections).. well that is.. until May of this year.. had a major exacerbation and that has left me being best buddies with a walker most days.. a wheelchair someday's (or if I want to get anything accomplished).. though I've had a couple of days here and there where I feel that I should be back at work.. this morning was one of those.. but let the day progress a little bit and things will change, I'm sure... Now, you say that you've been med free (I did that from 2004 to 2006)... since last year.. umm... just for your information and if need be.. until your medicare kicks in.. most of the pharmaceutical companies have programs for those who just can't afford the meds and have no or little insurance coverage to help pay for them.. I'm not sure who manufacturers Novantrone (not one of my personal options.. I didn't like the risks involved, being as there is a history of heart problems in my family).. but I'm betting if you check the web, you'll find they have the assistance programs as well... However, Novantrone is one of the drugs that you can only have so much of in a certain period of time, isn't it?... Well.. welcome aboard again... and I regret that we have to become friends for this reason.. you will find that this is a great group of people.. who are fairly well versed in just about everything on earth...
