Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have an odd question and was hoping that someone would know it. Where would I find information about the " typical " ratio of children in a mainstream class that have IEPs (disabilities)? My daughter's district is denying my request to place her in a " mainstream preschool " because the preschool that her oral-deaf school and I decided would be the best fit for her they do not contract with. I know that legally the can not deny me for that reason alone (they are hoping that I will take that excuse). They want to place her in a preschool that receives federal funding and they are mandated to have at least 25% of the preschool population with disabilities. I want to go into the IEP meeting with hard data that supports my theory that if she is placed in a program that has at least 25% of the children with disabilities that she is not being provided the least restrictive environment. She is ready to mainstream and needs to be with peers with age appropriate language and I want that environment to mirror the population that she would " typically " encounter in her elementary home school. Is there anything else I can use to back our preschool decision? Please let me know.
