retained placenta

I saw some discussion about the manual removal of retained placenta

and I wanted to add my experience. When I began hemorrhaging 3 weeks

after my son was born, and took an ambulance to the ER, I had about 3

different doctors inserting their hand (at different times) in my

uterus and pulling out clots. I was screeching in pain, and was

actually trying to prevent their hands from touching me by wriggling

away from them on the gurney. They couldn't believe that I was still

conscious. Eventually my doctor arrived and took control, but I'll

never forget the time I spent in that ER.

Also, I had a miserable night in the hospital following my son's

birth. It should have been so joyous. But apparently my uterus

wasn't contracting so nurses kept coming in and pushing down on it.

I was bleeding alot too and one of the nurses even questioned whether

the resident on call should come see me, but no one took it that

far. Since the pain was intense and I couldn't sleep, I finally

requested that my son be brought in to bed with me and I just lay

there, with him staring up at me offering me more comfort than any

hospital staff could.

I'm just wondering if this was noted on my charts and if so, why my

doctor didn't want to see me again that week to check me.

Tricia,

That sounds absolutly awful! After my son was delivered by c-section, I had a

fever that noone could explain. Then two months after that, with no bleeding at

all, I had this huge clot come out (not to be graphic, but I had to pull it out)

Of course I was distraught over this--my doctor just kinda blew it off and said

that it wasnt the placenta. Now, here I am--with ashermans. I really don't

think many doctors know anything about ashermans, or consequences of a retained

placenta--which puts us in such a terrible situation.

Speaking of this clot....Does this happen with people who do not end up with AS? My neighbor had a baby 8 weeks ago, no period, but big clot! Should she be worried? AS did not even cross my mind! Unfortunately, she did not call her doctor because her baby has health issues she is dealing with.
