Guest guest
Many you probably know this, but as I did not I will pass it along. I had heard on this list that Tishcon is the best for the Q gel. What I didn't know is that they only make the gel that goes into the softgel capsules. We asked Cohen if he felt brand mattered and he told us that it can. He said that the regulations on supplements is not as stringent so just because it says 100 mg of CoQ10 you may not actually be getting 100 mg. He also told us that tishcon makes the gel that suppliers buy and then add other ingredients to put in their brand of CoQ10 capsules. So I called the makers of ours (Sam's club brand) and learned that the CoQ10 in it comes from Japan... So I went to the tishcon website and found many brands of CoQ10 that use the tishcon Qgel, one of which is rexall sundown available in my local rite aid!! I had been using that and thought it was a cheap brand and come to discover it is the best from tishcon... As this was news to me, I wanted to pass it on to you. Cohen told us it was best to stick with one brand once we started, esp. when he is checking her levels each time. Hope everyone is doing ok. Meg is bouncing back following the Cleveland trip. Guest guest
I posted earlier about Tishcon's Q gel being available in a variety of manufacturers products. Well I have been doing more research and it appears that it must say " QGel " for it to be in the product. Not all of the CoQ10 products by that company are made by Tishcon. Two of the companies I called said the CoQ10 was made in Japan. So I checked the Tishcon website and found an article on their site that says ALL the CoQ10 that we use in America to make our own softgels comes from Japan. As I can not find QGel in a 100 mg dose, I am back to the brand I had. Does anyone seem to notice a difference with different brands? Thanks, Z

Guest guest
Hi , I don't think it will matter to much. When Miranda was in the hospital in July for her surgery, she did not get it for well over a week. They were draining everything from her stomach and feeding her with TPN. They gave what drugs they could via IV what was available. While you would not want to continually miss taking it, I don't think a few days will hurt. -- CoQ10 I ordered more Q-gel from Tischon on Mon a.m. as I was going to be out on Fri. night. Well it never came. It comes ground UPS so I suspect it won't come now until Mon sometime. My question is what happens if you miss 8 doses of your CoQ10? Anything? I didn't know if that was something that mattered so much since it's a supplement and not a prescription. Thanks for your help. Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions. Guest guest
, Missing a few doses should be fine. As I am so new to the group I don't know if everyone knows that it is important for the absorption of CoQ10 that it be in an oil base or taken with oil. Guest guest
While I think this applies to some, it may not to all. I know that I cannot miss my CoQ10 at all. When I attempted to just cut back, I lost the sound coming into my cochlear implant and I also know that one of my daughter's is noticeably affected if she misses one dose. Follow your body's hints, . If you start to notice the slightest change, I'd get someone to go to Walmart and pick up the Sundown brand or to the drugstore to purchase whatever gelcaps are available there to get you thru until you receive your order. If the same thing happens again with an order, you'll have them to fall back on as a temporary supply then as well. Alice > Hi , > I don't think it will matter to much. Guest guest
Hi : Not sure if anything truly happens. It just means (at least to me) that your body doesn't have the "constant" supplement in the system. Whenever Leah gets sick with throwing up; we discontinue all her supplements as we feel that can irritate her system more especially on an empty stomach. We do notice Leah gets a little more tired and pale looking. She was throwing up again on Thursday (which surprised both my husband and me). But...she did eventually drink water but not from a bottle but from a gaterade bottle. But at least we prevented her from another hosptial stay. And Leah just had her first dose of vitamins after being off of them for two days. Was wondering though if any one elses children does this. When Leah gets ill we notice a head bobbing more with her. And grinding of teeth. She is doing it a little bit today but not as much as on Thursday and part of Friday. Just curious on that one. Also she must still have some of the virus in her as she is coughing every now and then and had some loose bowel movements today. Her stomach must hurt at times because she is more fussy today than on Friday. Guest guest
, When Audrey gets ill she is more shaky than usual, not just her head. Also, she grinds her teeth a lot but we all just thought is was to her trying to get some more teeth. Is the teeth grinding a part of the mito issues? Audrey did get to come home from the hospital today. She had her G-tube placed yesterday and did real well with it. Right now she is on continuous feeds at 30cc per hour and is doing great with it. So far now reflux and that is a very good thing. Hopefully she will continue to do well. Also, Amie and Doyle said she seems to have more energy, moving her arms and legs more and trying to be more verbal. We all pray this helps. They are going to see Dr. Cohen in two weeks so they are looking forward to seeing what he has to say and hopefully get a more definitive diagnosis. I hope Leah is doing better today. God Bless to all, Kathy, grandma to Audrey, 16mos

Guest guest
My 2 cents; My kids and i both need to take CoQ on a consistent basis - skipping a day is not good for us but I am sure it is quite individual and depends if you have a coQ deficieny to begin with. We do. re: skipping when ill. The literature shows that illness depletes the body's CoQ blood levels. Whether that translates into a tissue depletion no one seems to be able to answer. However, assuming the blood level refelctas the tissue level - the last thing I want is to deplete my kids levels even further when they are ill. Obviously if your child can't tolerate CoQ when ill then the lesser of 2 evils is not to make them throw up by giving it. But if my kids can tolerate it - it is one of the meds I most worry about getting into them. Even with getting it my son's levels have been low when ill - I'd hate to see the levels if he was not getting it. Anne
