Guest guest
Dear ; LOL! You may well be on to something! That's really interesting. I went to the " country " this weekend (my partner's family house that now belongs to him); we try to go there on weekends to " hide away " - actually he goes there every weekend, I go sometimes, when I don't feel I need to stay and get freelance work done. Well, I slept for about fifteen hours over a 30-hour period... I don't know why I sleep so well out there. Perhaps it's that I don't turn the computer on out there for one thing. Another is that it's in the middle of nowhere, so there are no city noises, just country noises; crickets, birds, the wind in the trees, etc... It's quite wonderful. No pressure, no phone calls, no cable TV... Relaxing. I've thought of giving up the city life and just moving out there, but this is where my clients are, etc., so for now at least, I'm here; although he has told me that whenever I want or need to, or if my health dictates that I need to, I can move out there anytime and not worry, I can. That is the nicest thing I believe anybody has ever told me; and he meant it. I am very fortunate indeed. So when I whine, slap me and remind me of that. sigh... anyway, back to the city last night, and here I am, up still, without a WINK of sleep all night! Sheeze.. Gotta be psychological or something. I'm not right in the head. Anyway, M, I'm happy to hear that you got a lot of rest! And that you got your Elavil question answered! It does sound like it's one of those drugs that's simply going to knock you out for a long period, until it's good and done knocking you out! I'm amazed that you woke through your alarm!! I'm sure I wouldn't have. IF I had, I'm sure I'd have called in sick. bleah. Well, congratulations on your " good cat " story, I'm happy to hear that all is well. That IS always good news to hear. Purr, Terry in KC << Hi Terry... I'm glad I gave you something interesting to watch over the past few days... If you're still looking for something that will help you sleep, maybe you should think about Elavil! I did take it again on Friday night to see how I'd be with it on a non-work day. Oy vay. I went to bed about 1am Friday, slept till 10am Sat. Got up, took my cat to the vets for his check-up (he was pronounced very healthy.. a very nice thing to hear!) did some errands and got back home around 12:30. Was still a little tired, decided to take a " little " nap, fell asleep about 1:00 and slept till 6pm! I could have slept longer, but forced myself to get up. That was about 14 hours of sleep!! sheeeesh.. no wonder I kept dozing off at my desk at work! So maybe Elavil is what you need to get some sleep >>

Guest guest
Hi Terry - I'm so glad you finally got some sleep this weekend! MUCH better than your one or two hours a night, eh? Actually, I was thinking about you this morning as I was driving into work. You had said in a recent post that you went overboard on your pain meds last week, and you were going to have to do the begging routine again fairly soon. So I was thinking... I wonder if part of your problem going overboard with the meds is simply that you are awake for 22 hours everyday, and need to medicate for 22 hours, instead of the 16-18 hours most people are normally awake. If you could actually SLEEP more of the time, maybe you wouldn't need as much pain medication. Those extra 4-6 hours of awakeness (is that a word?) can add up over a period of days.. so after a week, it's like you really took 8 days worth of medication instead of 7, and that could be part of why you fall short on your meds. Does that make any sense? So as I was driving in, I was thinking of writing and suggesting that you and your doc have a serious conversation about your inability to sleep, and maybe he could give you some sleeping pills that would knock you out and get you some rest. The added bonus, of course, being that if you are really knocked out, you don't feel the pain while you sleep. So maybe you should still do that, or maybe you should seriously spend more time in the country if you are able to sleep well there. Ever hear of tele-commuting?? Maybe that's not very practical, I dunno, guess it depends on how long a trip it is back into the city. But maybe you can work something out where you are in the city two days a week, and able to meet with clients, and the rest of the time you are working in the country in the peace and quiet. Just a thought.. but I do hope you can find a way to get more sleep on a regular basis. And on a side note - I totally understand about your cat and your commitment to him I'm the same way with my cats. They had something wrong with them last fall, awful diarrhea problems, it lasted for about 5 months before we finally hit on a combinations of medicines that killed whatever the problem was. After a while when I'd bring them into the vets yet again the vet would say " thank you for being so patient and putting up with all of this... " and I was like - huh?? I should have them put to sleep or give them away because I am frustrated and sick of dealing with diarrhea????? I guess some people would have, according to her. Not me.. they are my babies, and spoiled rotten, and I would have reacted the same way as you if one of them ended up diabetic. And by the way, the only way I actually got up this morning (after hitting the snooze button repeatedly) was Romy lying on my arm and licking my face. He's a good wake-up kitty > Dear ; > LOL!
