Second, I'm sorry for all of your current problems, I have never had a mental examination, at least to my knowledge, but I would like to make an observation. The benchmark for any mental exam would to check for the three fundamental things of anyone's current mental state. Any exam would determine a. that you know who you are. b. also it would be determined that you knew why you were there. c. And then it would be determined that you knew when it was (like the day, date, year, how old you are. etc. There would surely be a review of medications, dosage, frequency, interaction, etc. I wouldn't worry about being nervous, it should be the examiners job to put you at ease. It would also be the examiners job to place you under a level of stress to observe you reaction at a new and different stress level. My bet would be that of every 1000 mental examinations 999 were judged to be mentally competent, so relax and think clearly, as best as you can, and have the confidence that you can handle this little hurdle easily. Guest guest
hi Kaaren: I had to go through one of those exams myself, and there is nothing to be nervous about. The doctor's are great and very understanding. Just be yourself and you should have no problem. I was approved by soc security 3 weeks after I saw their doctors. And as far as the pills go, don't let your doctor or anyone else make you feel that bad you are a great person its not your fault that you have CP. I have a 13 year old daughter who was diagnosed with CP three years ago and I know how the doctors can be hang in there okay and email me if you want okay denise. dcp46914@... Take care and good luck on Wendsday
Guest guest
, Your doc is a butthead and it is ok to be pissed off and have the urge to sqeeze his head off at this point. I think that he probably is either avoiding you or just plain does not want to deal with you at this point as then he would have to give rational answers as to why he does not think you have CP and frankly that takes alot of energy sometimes ( and thinking !). . The best thing at this point is to draw a line in the sand and move on. I think the fact that you are scheduled for your SS exam this week is perfect timing. SS will want to see how your illness ( whether or not it is CP or any other physicial condition ) has affected your emotional state. Don't be embarressed or ashamed that you are a bit on edge ( I like to call it, riding the broom past the speed limit myself, ask my husband, he will tell you ) as they need to see that this has affected your ability to work from a physical amd mental standpoint. I would not bash the physician when you go for the exam, I would just answer all of their questions ( they will want to know the progression of what has happened your S & S's and some other medical stuff ), but they will mostly be interested on how this has affected you from a mental standpoint. I would not mention anything about what your doctor believes or does not believe and if they ask just tell them that you don't think that your physician has your best interest at heart and that under the Patient Bill of Rights, you feel that you have not always been afforded a complete and adequate evaluation ( if your pancreatis status is questioned ). Most of the professionals that do these evals are either psychologists ( who are not Physicians' and sometimes don't kow a lot about medicial stuff ) but the MD's pyshciatrists do. There are good psychologist out there that know alot about medical stuff but that is because they have been doing it for a while and have learned. But my point is that they are more concerned about how your physicial conditions and limitations ( regardless of the cause ) has affected you psychologically. Just don't BASH your doc verbally alot, ( that turns off the examiniers ), but professionally state that you really feel he does not have your best intertest at heart. It is OK to cry and it is OK to be angry and it is OK to verbalize things while you are there. That may even help your case. And it is OK for them to know that you have educated yourself about your condition and that you have dealt with this for a long time. They also need to know how this has affected your family life. They will probably have you complete this mega page report that asks all kinds of questions ( some are pretty funny ). Don't be nervous, and it is ok that they know that YOU really don't think you are capable of working ( or you would of been there by now ! ). Now,,, about those bottles of pills..........! I know that you won't do anything stupid with them, you are just rightfully mad. I am sure others on this site have been thru the exam themselves, maybe they will have other advise for you. I will be thinking of you on Wednesday, keep us posted. I know it is hard not to be pissed at your doc but TRY to relax a little so the pancreas does not get flared up and cause you more misery. I know easier said than done. I too, have had a rough 24 hours, now started bleeding from places that I should not be. I called my GI doc today ( I am suppose to try to work for 3 hours today). Still waiting for GI doc to call and he always calls back at 5 pm. Do they think our bodies go on hold and stop functioning and being in pain till they call back ? I just don't get it , you know ? Well we will see how far I get and if my body starts talking to me again, it's home we stay. Guest guest
Hey , I have had one. They are basically looking to see if you are depressed at all which most likely you are. Just like everyone else is, when dealing with this disease. They will do some memory test. Like give you a few words to remember and then come back and ask you what the words were 5 mins later. Things to that nature. The test, I didn't think was that big of a deal. If they do find you slightly depressed it should help matters with SS. As far as your GI Doc avoiding you. That is a possibility. Time to talk to the Chief of Staff of the Hospital and or the Hospital Admin if you feel that this is the case. Everyone has a boss. I hope this helps answer your question. If I can help you in any other way, Please let me know I hope this finds you and yours well Mark E. I had to count on my fingers! he asked what my medical condition was and how it effects me mentally and I told him just how I felt, like crap!! He even gave me tips about getting approved, and said he'd do all he could to help me, then he told me I should consider counseling an anxiety drugs because to him I seemed very anxious and depressed. But the main thing to do when you go in is just tell him how you feel, I know you'll be nervous at first but once you get in there it's really not all that bad. I wish you luck, let me know how you make out! :} __________________________________________________
