Guest guest
Sounds like you had a wonderful vacation! Yes, I think you should look for a high risk OB/Gyn befor you get pregnant. The Doc will make sure that you are in shape to be pregnant and that you get a nice healthy start. Also you should be aware that pregnancy usually kicks the autoimmune stuff into gear--in fact that is one theory as to why so many more women have them than men. Kathy My trip and health----long Okay guys, I promised that I would write about my trip so here it is: Saturday we left, which was also my 32nd birthday. What can one say about the grandeur of a wonderful cruise ship such as the Horizon? Words cannot fully express my feelings of awe and amazement when I first saw it. When we first got on the ship, we were greeted with champagne(which I'm not a big fan of but had a couple of sips just to say I did) and since our state rooms weren't ready yet, we were invited to go to the 11th level and have our buffet lunch. We enjoyed a leisurely lunch and were soon hereafter informed by the PA system that our staterooms were ready. Our room was on the 6th level, which was right in the middle and very handy. It was rather small, as it fit two twin beds, a small table, a desk and two chairs. There were two other upper berths which folded down for the night. We had a very small bathroom and a shower stall, but since we didn't spend much time in it other to sleep it really didn't matter. After we got unpacked, we headed up to the main deck for the sailing party. There was a very nice band named Exodus performing and we had a good old time. I was sitting on a lounge chair, and around 3pm we heard the whistle blow. We had noticed that the stacks were smoking and suddenly I noticed a very subtle change in scenery. We were off! My aunt and I rushed up the steps so that we could watch us pull out. We had first sitting, so we headed up to dinner at 6pm. There were three dress styles for dinner:casual(more like business casual), informal(nice dress), and formal(cocktail dress/gown). First night was casual. Our waiter's name was Vedran and he was from Croatia. My dad was the only man at a table full of woman(my mom, aunt and I plus the three ladies we sat with) The food was wonderful and our waiter was sweet as could be. The next day a horrible bug hit three of us at the table---me, my aunt and one of the other ladies. I spent most of the day sleeping in a deck chair because I was too dizzy to do anything else. I forgot to mention that my mom and dad had given me cards the night before, and Sunday we were supposed to have a cake but I couldn't keep anything down. My mom didn't think it was seasickness, I was just over tired. Monday we arrived in St. , a little town in Bermuda. It was very historic and quaint and we did the shops there and spent the rest of the day on the ship. That night at dinner they had them bring me a cake out and sing Happy Birthday to me. Tuesday our destination was Hamilton and we went to Horseshoe bay...the water is crystal clear and you can see right to the bottom. It was just beautiful! The next day Dad and I went snorkeling, what an experience! It's a lot harder than it looks but also really fun. I took some underwater pics, which I will be posting in the photos section. That afternoon we went on a carriage ride and that night the street was blocked off for a street festival. Thursday Dad and I stayed around the pool cause we were pulling out at 1pm. Mom and Aunt June went into town to do some last minute shopping and then we were headed home. We arrived in Philadelphia around 7:30 on Saturday, but didn't get off the ship til 10:15 because of customs and such. Our neighborhood where my parents live was having a block party, but I asked my parents to drop me off at the apartment because I had really missed Alan and I wanted some time alone with him.*wink wink* We headed over to my parents' house around 4 and stayed for a couple hours. It was so nice coming back on 4th of July weekend because Alan had Monday off because the 4th was on a Sunday. Anyways, moving on to my health. Because of being on the birth control patch, my period actually came on time which it hasn't for a long time. But I am still feeling like crap. I'm dizzy, feel like I'm going to pass out at least half of my waking hours and I went to see my hematologist yesterday to make sure everything was fine. It was...platelets and hemaglobin are stable. He said to come back when I get pregnant becasue they will need to monitor me because the TTP can come back with pregnancy. My question to you guys is, should I start looking for a high risk OB/GYN now before I get pregnant? What do you think?Sharon How would you like to have a facial every day of the week for about the same cost as ONE facial? I can tell you how! Please email me or visit my web page at www.marykay.com/shendricks2004. I can also show you how to make lots of money by having fun and having make up parties with your friends! Please visit our website at:http://ACES_Autoimmune.tripod.com

Guest guest
So in other words I could come out of a pregnancy in worse shape than I am now. Fun! Guest guest
Yep, everything does. I read that the reason they think so many women get the autoimmune stuff after having children is that when they go into labor the body is recognizing the baby as something other than self and that kicks the immune system into action but enough of the baby's makeup is like the mother's that the immune system goes into overdrive. In some women it just stays there. Kayly's started after she had kids...or at least made itself known then. I think she had problems for years because she went through what they were calling "growing pains" as a kid and had long periods of time where she didn't really feel 100%. I'm ashamed to admit that alot of the time I thought she was just trying to get out of school. I had the growing pain thing also, and was sick alot as a kid and got sun rashes, etc too, so I guess there is an hereditary componant.
Guest guest
LOL...on the flip side, as a teenager I got sick constantrly with strep throat & tonsillitis because my tonsils were years overdue for being yanked out. While I WAS genuinely sick a lot I won't say that I did not on occasion play it up just a WEE bit more on test days:) Dawn --- Kathy wrote: > Yep, everything does. > I read that the reason they think so many women get > the autoimmune stuff after having children is that > when they go into labor the body is recognizing the > baby as something other than self and that kicks the > immune system into action but enough of the baby's > makeu

Guest guest
Yikes! I've still got mine at the age of 51--mostly you can't even see them anymore due to atrophy, but occasionally when I'm really sick they really swelll up. Kathy Re: My trip and health----long I don't know how big mine were just that they hadgotten so bad by the time they operated on me that Ihad acute toxemia. The dr. literally told me if I putit off any more I was going to die. The doctor who wasdoing the surgery told my mom (operating doctor wasnot same as dr. who scheduled me for tonsilectomy)would take about two hours, max. I was in there forfour & a half hours. The Dr. said he'd never seentonsils like mine except in third world countries. Thedoctor also said something about having to burn allthe old scar tissue down after they took out thetonsils??? No clue what that was about since I did notgo to the follow up appointment (no gas money) and mymom does not understand medical explanations much atall.Dawn--- "Kayly S.
