Look up the truth before making wild statement. There are several, and I mean more than 3, whom have received prison time and fines from the feds. Guest guest
Goldstar was NOT the first firm to be investigated by CMS, the Attorney General and/or the FBI. They have been doing this for years and will continue to do it. The issue is that the bigger you are the harder you fall...it didn't make national news when the feds walked into the small town hospital and pulled records and filed complaints...but when they walked into Columbia's office and pulled files it was on every major news channel you could find....even Al Jazera.... This is a hazard of being a big boy. No one is immune from this if you are not properly following all federal guidelines. City's, billing companies, city's with billing companies, counties, privates, volunteers...everyone is susceptable...and here is the kicker...if you violate a rule or law regarding federal reimbursement and you didn't know it was not legal...but you should have known...you are still liable and guilty. Reminds me of that old saying... " Ignorance of the law is no excuse " . These issues really bother me because we are all susceptible and after this is resolved in the next 2 to 3 years (yeah...years) and Goldstar pays a fine and repays money they shouldn't have gotten...that will be buried in the back of the newspaper and probably won't even get a mention in this forum. Isn't it funny how we all rubberneck these types of incidents just like Q. Citizen does on the bad 10-50 on the interstate? Dudley Re: The real Story - Gold Star I don't think that Body Armor & Guns are trivial! I trust that the owners and managers don't think so either and have hired attorneys. Gold Star just happened to be the first EMS firm in Texas to be investigated by the Fed's, and I assure that they won't be the last. And yes Lee we do need to be concerned about other issues in EMS, however; as long the Fed's have problems with EMS billing practices it makes us all look bad, especially in the eyes of the healthcare industry. As long as we look bad, things like pay/benefits, education, scope of practice, etc. will be low on the totem poll.
