Guest guest
Hi All, Does anyone have any experience/info. re treament of head injury in Mito. kids, was hit inthe head last night playing ice hockey, ( in goal, on the advice of our Ortho. who feels he has only so much milage left in his legs) My ex. dropped him off @ the door, came in pale, confused ,blurred vision, headache etc. I took him to our local hosp. gave the Dr. a brief run down of his condition, at this stage was definately improving, but his BP was 130 / 50 ( his norm is 100/70) his hands were swollen and white,The Dr, didn't even do a neuro. on him, but said "take it easy for a couple of days , go for a bike ride on day 3, then roller blade on day 4 then back to anything you want on day 5....( hasn't been able to roller blade for over a year, and his hands tire so he has problems putting the breaks on his bike!!) I felt like screaming..... i said," why do you think his hands are swollen, "and he said "you're o.k. buddy, right" so i said" why is his BP reading so strange,?" to which he replied " i don't like to guess"........ He said "neurologists have got together and told parents that concussions are a problem realistically they aren't" .................At that i thanked him ( why ? ) and left, slept in my room and i woke him @ regular intervals, i spoke with our new pead. who said that she felt the BP. and the hand thing are likely an autonomic reaction to stress on the system, ( that seemed to make sense to me ) she also said no school this week , no rushing around until we see her in 8 days ( and to call if concerned) she said with s neuro. issues we have to be really cautious, My fear is that something like his underlying seizures will come to the fore if we push him, Thanks for listening, on the up side he's looking pretty good today, apart from some transient numbness in his fingers this afternoon, and a headache. Take care, Jillian, s mom
