Guest guest
Jeni, Hi! We didn't understand about withdrawal seizures before we started the diet either. They're not breakthrough seizures--they're literally a side effect from reducing the medication. My son has never been on Tegratol, but I know it's one of the medications that have withdrawal seizures. The seizures will subside once the body adjusts to the new medication level. The trick is to go very, very slowly and wait between reductions. There are other parents on the list that can give you a better idea of how much, how long the withdrawal will take and how long to wait between reductions. But it definitely gets worse before it gets better so you basically just have to ride out the storm. Not much fun, but worth it. ashley mom to ---------- To: ketogenic Subject: Weaning Meds Date: Mon, Jul 1128, 1220032002, 18:15 PM << Are breakthrough seizures normal and do they calm down eventually when the diet takes over? Should we just persevere with the reduction even if seizures happen? Help would be great! Jeni>>
