Guest guest
Progresso Cream of Mushroom Soup is GF. -- Sub for Cream of Mushroom Soup? DH's all-time favorite food is my Mom's hamburger stroganoff recipe, which calls for cream of mushroom soup. Does anyone know of a GF version of condensed cream of mushroom soup? Or a recipe to make some? I'm searching various archives and websites, but I'm trying to find out fast as DH wants it for dinner. Perhaps I'll make it the regular way and have something else for myself. ( TIA Trudy

Guest guest
, I've tried to find the Progresso Cream of Mushroom soup in my local Safeway and Albertsons stores, but they don't carry it. I'm going to ask them if they can for us, but where do you buy yours? I live in the San Francisco bay area. Guest guest
try a recipe for 'white sauce'... which you can vary to get cream of mushroom, cream of celery, or cream of chicken - or even a cheese sauce like for macaroni and cheese (gf noodles of course) Basic recipe: 4 Tbs Margarine 1/4 cup gf flour or flour blend 2 cups milk (or milk substitute) salt/pepper to taste (easiest way is in the microwave) In microwaveable glass bowl, melt margarine, then whisk in flour. Cook on high for 1 minute. Add in 1 cup of milk, microwave on high in 2 minute increments (stirring after each 2 minutes) until beginning to thicken. Add other cup of milk. Continue to heat/stir in 2 minute increments until thickened. Add gf ingredients to flavor according to your needs - chicken boullion (add with milk), canned mushrooms (add canned liquid in with milk, and stir in mushrooms at the end), cheese (continue heating until cheese is melted), cooked sausage (sausage gravy!), the options are endless!! 1.5 cups is equal to one can of condensed 'cream of' soup Great substitution for casseroles/recipes!!! ~Judy
