OT- Yahoo requiring CC #?

Here's something very OT for the soaplist, but I'm wondering what others'

opinions on it might be...

My DD, who is over the age of 13, was warned that access to her yahoo account

will be terminated if she doesn't verify her age because it says their records

show she is under 13 and they will be enforcing the recent Children's Online

Privacy Protection Act. To verify her age, they want her to submit her credit

card

information.... Isn't that a bit out of line? (She has no credit card, but the

fact that they think we will give

them a CC number to continue using Yahoo amazes me!)

M

>>Yahoo! Family Accounts >Family Accounts Help

....If you're blocked, click " Verify Your Age " at the bottom left of the prompt

screen. We will ask you for credit card information, which we use to certify

that you're an adult. Read more about this requirement.

We do not charge your credit card.

Please note: You will not need to do this unless prompted when you register or

sign in to your account.

Yahoo! requires consent from a parent or guardian before collecting any

personally identifying information from a child under the age of 13. We do this

through our Family Accounts feature. The feature enables a parent to create an

account for a child and, equally, lets Yahoo! know that the child has permission

from a parent before they are given an account.<<
