You are not alone. It's a tough disease to have. In my opinion and I'm sure

most people here, this disease cant be treated by your family doctor. This

board does have a list of recomended doctors. Proper treatment will help all

aspects of your life. There are many caring people here and it's a great

place to come for support.

Will keep you in my prayers,

Rob

I'm sorry to hear of your frustrations concerning your DR's.

I think I speak for lots of people when I tell you some dr.s

just don't have our best interests at heart. My suggestion to

you is to find yourself a different primary. I say this with

firsthand experience. Alot of dr's just want to give you a

pill and make you go away. If your dr. doesn't want to work

" with " you they are'nt working for you.. I used to have a dr.

that made me feel like I was bothering him with my problems. He

seem to find a way to minimize my pain and problems. There are

alot of good dr's out there. I know it's a challenge but it's

worth the effort. Good Luck to you

Dear Frustrated and Sad,

You could try to find a different primary physician that you would

feel comfortable working with over a long period of time, but most

importantly, is to get a referral immediately to an experienced

Gastroenterologist. They specialize in pancreatic diseases and are

infinitely more knowledgeable than a GP. They know what tests to do,

what procedures are necessary, and generally, since they work daily

with patients with pancreatitis (acute, chronic and cancer), are much

more sympathetic and intune with your specific problems and needs. I

have had acute pancreatitis and now have chronic pancreatitis, and I

presently do not even have a GP that I see on a regular basis...my

Gastro Dr. handles my treatment.

It is a frustrating and sad, and often misunderstood disease.....

that needs to be treated by a professional. It doesn't " go away " .

There are many more options available to you, that will help you

handle the pain and the dietary restrictions that are so very

important. You need to be proactive about it, after all, it's your

body! I think it's criminal for a doctor to hand out prevacid and a

quilt trip thinking that is adequate care!

There are also many people on this board who are here to listen to

your frustrations, sadness and questions, and help you find anwers.

Please don't hesitate to ask. We all care, because we, or our

partners, or children, or parents, have experienced pancreatitis

disease and it's many, many related medical problems. You are not

alone.

Good luck and God Bless,

Heidi in SC

thanks for your ongoing support Rhonda, My name is and I am

actively pursuing appropriate treatment for this disease, the

unfortunate thing is not having timely Gi appointments... the most

frustrating of all is not having insurance approval to go to see

another Gi for proactive treatment of this ugly disease. I have had

the pleasure of speaking with Heidi in the chat room the other day and

did not feel so alone any more... maybe this is not in my head after

all....!! I am dropping the pounds on a w eekly basis... low fat diet

does not enable one to put on suitable weight to fend off any other

dissease that comes down the pike... the last time I saw the Gi that

did the ERCP, he said " still don't know what caused these episodes,

just eat balanced diet and hope you donnn't have another attack " " not

an answer I wanted to hear. one month later, ate dinner out with

friends landed in the ER.. was told that A & L were normal, given pain

meds and send home... GI was called... didn't come in to ER or call

me... called his office and made appt... was given one for 10 weeks

later... and her I sit,, in pain, can't eat..
