Guest guest
, I haven't heard from him lately, but I do know he has limited access to a computer right now, so that may be part of it. I'll email him and see if I get a reply anytime in the near future and I'll let you know. Kimber -- Kimber hominid2@... Guest guest
Thank you Kimber I am worried about him. I read something on Netdoctor.co.uk that has me wondering it said that there is an increase risk of pancreatic cancer in patients with chronic pancreatitis. Have you heard that and do you know what the percentage would be for this happening? It also said that the life expectency for paitents diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis is 7 years which cant be right be because many people that post have been much longer with this disease. It has me wondering if any one knows anything about this disease or is it all guess work. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this. from Canada

When most doctors were in med school and being taught by older professors, all they had seen was generally chronic Panc. that was the result of long periods of heavy consumption of alcohol. As we now know there seem to be many other causes of chronic Panc. And the medical guys don't know what the exact cause or causes are. The older view was likely correct for the time, old alcoholics maybe just lived seven years because their bodies had suffered many other abuses. The view today is quite different, patients are younger, treatment is (sorry to say it but it's likely true) mostly better. Panc. is still somewhat rare in the whole aspect of disease, I personally think there is the high possibility of environmental cause. And that could range from chemical exposure to maybe a combination of tooth paste additive with consumption of Brussels sprouts. Who knows . . no one at this time. The thing to remember is that we are all individuals, and while we have similarities we also seem to have major differences with this disease. I suggest just taking it one day at a time and remembering you are in uncharted waters and to try to not make a decision before it is time to make one. Guest guest
I too have been exposed to many chemicals being in the optical business. We kept tint pots at 210 degrees 16 hours a day with not much ventilation. I wonder what the chemical link could be? Holly

There is the aspect of the chemical itself, then there is the fact that individuals have inherent different levels of toxic resistance, then there is the possible combination of different chemicals from both a workplace and even outside the workplace exposures. It soon becomes too complicated for any straight connection to be made. Many years ago the medical folks were able to connect the use of a public water pump in London England to the fact that it was located very close to an outhouse and they were able then to explain the appearance of many cases of cholera, that was the last time the medical folks were able to correctly define a disease condition to a source, about 150 years ago. It has become much more complicated since then. Over 99% of all chemical and chemical combinations are totally harmless; but it is that other slight chance that can cause a small effect or a major one. We know enough to realize that eating rat poison is generally bad for one's health, but can commonly used carpet cleaner cause respiratory problems, maybe so and maybe not. The unfortunate part of all of this is the fact that us human population are actually the " lab test rats " for all of those products and chemicals that we use every day and that others use every day. When enough of us get sick enough to cause a problem, then science tries to seek a cause and solution. But first it must be recognized as a problem. Ahhh Well, speculation and soapbox oratory. I hope everyone has a great day and an excellent weekend Best wishes, Poncho - GA
