Guest guest
, 's seizure control is so-so right now. The VNS (implanted 6/27) is definitely helping. Not with number of seizures, but recovery time is so much better. It's probably not the ideal time to withdraw the clonazepam, but there never seems to be a right time. He's been on in for almost 2 years---particularly frustrating since it never really did any good (it was prescribed for sleep & anxiety by a psychiatrist). is only on one dose per day. 1/2 .5mg tab at night. is also on Felbatol & Zonegran. We may up the Zonegran for a few nights. We don't like the dulling effect of Zonegran, but in this case, it might be a good thing! Plus maybe add a little extra seizure control? Who knows. Did I mention I'm dreading this? We are definitely nervous about doing it this way. But, as I told ne, we're prepared to reintroduce it if necessary and wean very, very slowly. ashley ---------- To: <ketogenic > Subject: Re: fellow benzo weaners- Date: Wed, Jul 1116, 1220032002, 15:58 PM <<Well - I guess the only way to find out of he can handle this quick wean at the end is to try. Have to say though that everything I have read cautions against this - but I see the neuro's point about the prolonged seizure activity each time from individual weans. You may be lucky and see the same fallout with the total reduction you are planning, as you would have each time if you had done a number of smaller ones. That is the maddening thing, there is no way of knowing whether our kids would have coped differently with larger reductions or not. I can't say anything has helped us with mood swings, insomnia etc during a benzo wean, but then again - I haven't tried any of the things that some on the benzo yahoo list talk of, like the GABA or any other sort of 'calming' supplements. Well, good luck for tonight - has he been on just the one dose per day? How is his seizure control at the mo?

Guest guest
- do you think it is possible that some of the seizures still has are related to only taking the clonazepam once a day? I thought with it's short half life, that 3 times a day for this one was needed. Otherwise after that evening dose wears off, he may be having inter dose withdrawals as his blood level drops. This may be a good thing in a way when it comes to an abrupt withdrawal I guess, as it isn't as if he has had a steady blood level over each 24 hrs to be 'interrupted' by weaning, if you see what I mean. I hope this is gonna be a change for the better for him anyway, and will wait to hear how you guys go. Again - good luck with it all from down here, ----- Original Message ----- > , > 's seizure control is so-so right now. The VNS (implanted 6/27) is > definitely helping.
