Guest guest
Hi a I am a UK member that is going to Germany next week. I too was going to be referred to Barts Hospital not sure of the doctors name though. I just decided that I wanted to see an A list doctor after all the proding around for 3 1/2 years. Guest guest
In general, IUD's are not recommended for women with uterine scarring due to the fact that they are left in for much longer periods of time than balloons and due to the fact that they can actually cause inflammation which can lead to more scar tissue. As for when you should have a follow-up, I can only speak from my experience with Dr. Valle (A-list) here in Chicago. He does a follow- up immediately after the first " medicated " period following surgery. He leaves the balloon in for 1 week and then you have roughly 3 weeks without a balloon before you start Provera to force a period...so you end up having a period approximately 4 weeks after removal of the balloon. It was at this follow-up that they found my uterine cavity open and clear. It is Dr. Valle's position that if scar tissue is going to reform it will have done so BY THE TIME of the follow-up. He (and the other A- list doctors) believe that scar tissue only reforms during the 3 or maybe 4 weeks following surgery. So if it's going to regrow, it will have regrown by the time of the follow-up. This may not be the case with the IUD however because it may cause inflammation that continues for a longer period of time thus " extending " the possible regrowth of scar tissue. I would suggest your insist on the use of a balloon catheter only with no IUD and followed-by a repeat hystersalpingogram approximately 5 weeks after surgery (immediately after your period.) Hope this helps. Gwen
