Guest guest
I am sure you can order the BHB monitor online - the one I have is made by Abbott Labs (Precision Xtra Glucose and BHB monitor) and they are a pretty good company to work with. I got mine from the local pharmacy and since I already had a prescrip for the glucose strips (was using a different glucose machine) I just purchased the glucose strips and the monitor was free. It has a nite lite that helps to test in the dark, a feature that really helps at 3am. The BHB strips are quite expensive - about $15 for 8 strips but my insurance covers them so we are good to go in that department. If you are getting falling glucose and rising ketones by the am it is possible that the ketones are too high in the am causing seizures. Wont know unless you can test ketones easily when you test glucose (I had to do both to figure out a plan of action for Mike) I remember someone here saying they gave their daughter a non-keto snack at bedtime and that worked well for them. Might need to add a little carbs into a night snack? Or some protien? could probably help you more with the calorie thing, we have been fortunate that Mike's cals have always been adjusted properly by the dietician (I do check out what she does and make sure it all makes sense) so I havent had to work too much out on my own in that department. Our dietician didnt get the dawn phenom thing fully either, I just told her what I wanted done and she agreed (thank goodness- she can be hard to talk to sometimes) Do you give him a snack already at bedtime? (I am sure you have said this already before, pardon me for not remembering, things have been crazy lately and I am not retaining all the info I should be - gonna need a break from holidays soon Jenn sarah.anaya@... wrote: > Jenn, thanks for the info.
