Guest guest
Hi , With a TSH alone, it really is hard to tell what's going on since TSH normally runs six weeks behind your thryoid hormone levels, and when you're on ATDs, it can take much longer for your TSH reflect your thyroid hormone levels (as long as 18 months). Most people don't even start producing normal amounts of TSH until they begin to become hypothyroid, but everyone is different. As Jody says, we all have a certain setpoint or optimal TSH level. An FT4 test would tell you if you are hyper or hypo. With TSH, it would be a guess at this point. Take care, Elaine

Guest guest
Hi , Maybe you are hypO for your set points. I know I don't function when my TSH gets above 1.0, I have horrible hypO symptoms then. As to what to do, I have no clue. I would call your doctor about the dizzyness and palpatations. Maybe there is something more going on...or maybe if they have increased since adding bugleweed, it isn't agreeing with your system? I know, not much help, the only thing I could think to do is call your doctor about the symptoms. Guest guest
Hello Jody Thanks for replying. Trouble is that I can't call my doctor - she's now on maternity leave for several months. I think I've said elsewhere that she doesn't know anything about thyroid, but she's been willing to work with me over it. However, the other doctors in the practice know nothing either and I don't have the energy to tackle it - I went to another one before and she wouldn't even contemplate thyroid stuff and just tried to twist my arm into taking HRT... I've just been trying to find other figures and found that in the summer of 2000 my TSH was 2.7 - this was a year before my diagnosis - and I was dizzy like this back then. I wonder if that means that I'm hyper when my TSH is at 2.7 and 2.1 - surely not??? I'm getting ever so confused here........ Basically, I have to work it out. There isn't anyone, at the moment, that I can call. Anyway, the people on this group have more knowledge than anyone I've so far met in all my medical appointments. Guest guest
, Hi , It does seem like you're right in range according to the norms, but I'd feel hypo as all heck at 2.1 TSH. But I've gone through what you are experiencing, am going through it in fact although the results are more clear for me, as even the TSH went down to <.01 last time. I started weaning myself down on the methimazole over about an 8-month period, got to 1.25 mg./day, felt fine for months--then all of a sudden went hyper again. So now I'm back up to taking 7.5 mg., in a split dose, which *feels* OK right now. But I had FT4 and FT3 tested, which backed up the TSH number completely. I also know that swinging from hyper to hypo to hyper seems to be possible for me rather quickly. I've never experienced dizziness as a symptom, either--so don't know how to interpret that one. There is, however, a huge symptom list you can print out either by searching the archives or it's in a database on the main page for the group. You might find some help identifying with various entries there. But there are a lot of symptoms that can be either hyper or hypo, I've found. The symptom list was compiled as a group effort last year, and so represents all our cumulative experiences to some extent. I don't envy you your socialized health system. Good luck finding a way through/around it. Guest guest
Hello Terry Thanks for your thoughts. Well, yes - I assumed I would be hypo at 2.1 TSH as well and then I discovered a TSH reading from before my diagnosis - of 2.7 - and I was dizzy then too. So now I'm wondering if I'm hyper at that level, but it doesn't seem right at all. What do you think about the test for telling if you're hypo? I've been doing it for the last three mornings as it says - to get an average - and it's 35.7C or 96.4F which, according to the test means I'm hypo. But that then is just another conflicting symptom with the dizziness... My blood pressure's fine. Had it checked today. What a shame that you went hyper again at 1.25mg - any idea why? Any particular stress or binge of caffeine or something else?? I'll go and have a look at the symptom list. No - I'm less than impressed with the NHS over this. I have, today, had blood taken for a private result which I hope will come through quickly because I really need to do something about this dizziness before I spend most of next week driving my mother around the South West. It would nice to get her back in one piece... Guest guest
Hi , Remember there is a six week lag time for TSH to show . So this means your recent test is showing where you were six weeks ago. So if the 'trend' is continuing... you could be hyper by now. OR>> you 'could ' have held steady ??? OR>>> you could be healing and be hypo ??? Then too, we all have different set points, so with only this to go on, I have no idea. This is just so wrong for you not to have proper care. If you could even get a FT4, you would have a better idea. -Pam-

Guest guest
, I don't think much o it at all. My normal temp is 96.5, and I've gone as low as 95.6 once recently--and I was hyper at that point. I've always had low temp and low bp. Glad you got a privately done blood draw. Can't wait to see the results! I'm sure once you have them, you will be able to figure all this out. Guest guest
Thanks, Elaine. Trouble is that usually I do have to guess. This time, on the spur of the moment, I have arranged for a private test, but that's only because I have to consider another person's safety - I can't afford to do this as a rule. Even then the results are going to come through awfully late for my purposes and I had hoped to either start on the bugleweed seriously or drop the carbimazole altogether in time to make a difference by next Tuesday. I shall just have to expect my body to react faster than usual... Re: Lab results puzzle Hi , With a TSH alone, it really is hard to tell what's going on since TSH normally runs six weeks behind your thryoid hormone levels, and when you're on ATDs, it can take much longer for your TSH reflect your thyroid hormone levels (as long as 18 months).

Guest guest
Thank you for considering the figures, Pam. Then too, we all have different set points, so with only this to go on, I have no idea. This is just so wrong for you not to have proper care. If you could even get a FT4, you would have a better idea. -Pam-
Guest guest
Thank you for considering the figures, Pam. I must be getting to grips with this stuff because my thought processes seem to have followed yours remarkably closely... It's all the help I'm getting. Ain't it grand? Yeah. Guest guest
Thanks for your thoughts on the ol' thing, Terry. I wonder if your temp is related to your bp??? My bp is ok as of today, but even then, I'd be guessing. Blimey, I could set up as a doctor, too, and consult the entrails of a black cockerel and have just as much of an idea that way as I have actually living through it. <sigh> Yep - I shall post my results forthwith when I get them. I only hope there'll be no hiccup with that as the place where I had the blood drawn refused to do with the blood what the company wanted who actually do the results... <oh, dear> Criminy - all these pitfalls one never suspected... But that > then is just another conflicting symptom with the dizziness...
