Guest guest
Our chapter awards a bracelet or charm for the first 10 lbs --- along with the contents of our 'Dime Can' -- members put in 10 cents each meeting and whenever anyone reaches a 10 lb loss they win the contents of the can !!! After the first 10 lbs. members earn the contents of the Dime Can. This is a chapter by-law -- not National. Hugs from SE Texas, Randie RE: congrats! I think it is, if you are in TOPS for 6 months and you have a 10# loss. But I don't have the rules with me. Congratulations on your 10 #'s lost. Grammy Pat Grammy Pat & Donna - - I think the charms/bracelets/whatever awards are handed out are strictly up to each chapter's discretion and rules. The only awards that TOPS Headquarters controls are the 5/10/15/20 etc., KOPS awards, Century Club Medallions, and maybe a few that I'm not remembering right now - - Each chapter should have an awards program set up and each member should have a copy so they can know what to expect. In fact, it's a good idea to have the awards schedule be a part of your Chapter By-laws that each chapter should have and should give to every new member who comes into the chapter. Guest guest
No problem, Clara. You are right about TOPS, Inc. controlling the " special awards " . I'm sure glad they do! Otherwise you'd see all kinds of people receiving the special awards that hadn't earned them. They are not longer " special " at that point. When I first joined TOPS I thought that TOPS headquarters had rules on the bracelets and charms. Couldn't find them written anywhere so I read the Chapter Guide, Weight Recorder's Guide, Official TOPS Rules as well as the shiny brochures of the charms and order forms several times before I convinced myself of that. I can see how other people think there are rules for these. When we reviewed our by-laws this year I had our chapter to amend them so that at the discretion of the leader or weight recorder, charms could be awarded for special situations. Sometimes a person just *needs* that little extra something to keep them going. , congratulations on your loss! Yours was hard won. I hope the doctor did something to change up your meds so that your blood sugars come down to a safe level. Maybe the calorie counting and exercise will help. We can hope so anyway! Blood sugars can be difficult to control. Congratulations to all you other losers this week! Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen, I was going by just what my chapter had told me. I guess that is how my chapter does it. We are eligible for charms as soon as we sign up. Donna RE: congrats! TOPS, Inc. doesn't have any rules on when or how to give the charms. It is up to the individual chapters to make their own rules and bylaws. That's why there is such a disparity in who gets charms and when. Just thought everyone would like to know so they won't feel like they are being discriminated against. Kathleen > I think it is, if you are in TOPS for 6 months and you have a 10# > loss. Guest guest
Thanks to both of you, Clara and Kathleen, I stand corrected. I guess I was just remembering what I had been told in our chapter. That is good to know on the charms and bracelets. I have been wanting to go over our by-laws with our chapter officers. I have only been leader since April 18th and I can't remember when the last time was that someone went over the by-laws. Re: congrats! No problem, Clara. Guest guest
Donna, Your chapter is different from mine. I'm glad that in yours the members are eligible for charms right away. My chapter is just a year and a half year old and still quite small. I haven't been able to generate much excitement over the charms and bracelets. Maybe someday, but not yet. What are you eligible for right away? Maybe that would inspire some of our members. Thank you for the information. Guest guest
Donna, Each chapter is supposed to review their by-laws annually. I would think it is to be brought before the whole group, not just a panel. I think it it is in January, but I'm not positive on the month. I think it's in the official TOPS Rules or in the Chapter Guide. I think in an older chapter it would be a very good thing to review them especially since you can't remember the last time they were reviewed. When the by-laws are changed, a copy is to be sent to the area coordinator for approval or rejection. I don't know how many chapters follow this.
