Hi Pepper !!! Trying again to answer your questions -- for some reason the emails I type sometimes just disappear !!!! Outlook Express closes up and my new email goes to Neverland !!! Don't have any idea what is happening ---

1) The new Leader's Guide has a new order for the meetings. Seems they want the program first for members who may leave early. Our members almost always stay for the entire meeting and we tried the new order -- but we didn't like it -- so we've gone back to our 'old' way --- start with a song and pledges, welcome, etc. We do use the new format sometimes when we need to 'speed up' the program -- leaving out the secretary's report and a couple of other things -- if we have a long program planned or something else. Our members enjoy singing -- even though we're usually off-key !!! We may get in trouble for this --- but we're doing what we feel most comfortable with. We do cover all the things we need to cover !!! I know things are a changin' -- but this was one thing we chose to not change -- and we did try it first !!!

2) We have a member who will soon have 19 years perfect attendance, is a KOPS and has kept a food chart each week. When she had 17 years in, we took a picture of her (made sure it was good and clear) and I wrote up a few sentences about her -- and sent it in to the TOPS Magazine -- there's an address for articles in it --- her picture never made it !!! Don't know if they get sooo many or what !!! We followed the guidelines and what they wanted, but they didn't print the article -- so good luck if you try with yours -- it's worth a try !!!!

We did honor this KOPS my first year as leader -- no one before had recognized her number of years as a KOPS nor Perfect Attendance --- we've also honored the woman who founded our chapter -- she's still an active member -- and honored our lone male member who helps tremendously with our fundraisers at the place where he works -- so we wanted to show him our appreciation !!!

Hugs, Randie

QUESTIONS and HELP

Ok I got a couple questions and then I ahve a request if anyone can help me out.

Question #1. Has it been made a rule for the chapters to change the routineof thier meeting's order? I have been out of TOPS alot last year and I have noticed that our meeting has changed around and it is kinda confusing and I sort of made a comment about it to another member and she said that the Area co-ordinator sent a guide line that chapters have to go by now. I don't understand that.

Question #2. How does one go about sending in important things a chapter does or soemthing grand that a member has did or has accomplished? I noticed in the TOPS magazine this month that there is a lady in there that has been in TOPS for 19 years and has never missed a meeting. Our chapter also has a member who has been in TOPS for 19 years and has never missed a meeting and has turned in a food chart every week also. We also have a weight recorder (who is ones of the nicest, sweetest, kindest, and carest person you'll ever meet) who has been the weight recorder for 21 years and has even gotten awards for perfect resumes. How would I go about writing up an article on these 2 members and submit it to the publishers of the magazines. I mean it may never get printed BUT if I don't try it sure will not ever get printed RIGHT? So if anyone knows please tell me.

NOW......

I plan on making a big banner for our member who has had perfect attendance for 19 years But I was wondering iof any of you have any type of poem, or, some kind of soemthing that I could use to honor her for this accomplishment? I am going to go check into getting her a trophy made and present it to her, BUT, I thought if any of you have any ideas on how to make it special I would appreciate it.

I plan on giving our weight recorder a thank yous hower in September for her dedication and hard work she does for the chapter also. I will do it on her anniversary date that she took the position. ANY AND ALL HELP will be greatly APPRECIATED!!

Thank Randie for answering the questions. I do not care for the order in which we do our meetings now, BUT, I guess it is ok. We get everything taken care of it is just going tot ake some time getting use to how the meetings are scrambled up!! LOL

I know that change is good and I am all for changes especially if they are for the better, BUT, some of the changes (in my opinion and some of the others in my chapter's opinions) that TOPS are making are not better. Like a lot of the members here say they do not like the line that was changed in the pledge I do not care for that change either. It just does not sound right. I don't think it fits.

Our chapter has always recognized this member also, and the last several years I have made a banner and tried to make her see that we are proud of her. She also has perfect attendance and had a calorie chart each week. I have a hard time going 19 weeks in a row much less 19 years!!! I feel so badly for her because she use to be so active and now because of her health she can do as much as she use to, BUT, she does still help out where ever she can. I guess I will make the banner this year and I am going to try and get her a trophy of some kind.

I do know for sure I am going to throw our weight reocrder a shower in Septmeber to honor all her hard work and dedication she shows the chapter.

How is your husband doing? I am so sorry to read that he has been ill and in the hospital. Take care and have a good week. Love pepper

I've heard a lot of people say they don't like the way the last line of

the pledge was changed last year. I agree, I don't like it either. We

could start a writing campaign to TOPS headquarters to protest the

change. After all, someone complaining about it is what got it

changed to begin with, so we could do the same. Put on your

thinking caps to come up with a better ending and let's do

something about it. I think the new last line is DUMB! As

says " it doesn't fit " .

Just my two cents.

Pepper, You can get a news form from your A.C or someone close

and just write the story and send it in. I would do one story on

each. They might use it next time or you may suddenly see it in the

TOPS news 2 years from now. ( the later is especially true of poems,

games and such. But by all means do it. TOPS HUGS, Vernie
