Guest guest
Hi there! I saw your question about hemorrhage and damage to a gland. The gland involved is the hypothalamus and/or pituitary gland. During pregnancy, these glands enlarge and require a greater blood supply. If you have heavy bleeding post-partum such that your blood pressure drops very low, the blood supply to these glands can be compromised resulting in too little blood flow to these glands. This can cause parts of the tissue of these glands to " die " because they are " starved " of proper blood supply. If this happens, the production of gonadatropins (the " sex " hormones) can be suppressed or even shut-off resulting in infertility/anovlation/ammenorrhea. The good news is that this kind of glandular injury can be treated with " artificial " hormones for instance by using IVF drug protocols to " restore " the normal levels of such hormones into your system. Does this help? Gwen
