Guest guest
But how do that "extract" the wheat and milk? Donna M. White, Esq. Bingham McCutchen LLP 150 Federal Street Boston, MA 02110 (Fax) donna.white@... GOOD NEWS ABOUT MCDONALDS FRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just called MCDONALDS at 1-877-MCD-FOOD and they told me with the new labeling laws they had to include ALL the ingredients that the supplier could put in the cooking oil. They get the wheat and milk extracted out of their oil before it gets shipped to any of the MCDONALDS. The gentleman said they just received a fax about this this AM and is stating nothing has changed about the fries at all. He said they are prepared to stand behind this. I am so relieved. Guest guest
Given the number of very sensitive people I know who have eaten McD fries over the years with no reaction AND clear tests, I suspect there's either no gluten in the fries or it's so miniscule it's not even measureable. Unfortunately, we might be seeing more of this as a result of the labeling law. If there's any chance at all that there's even molecule, list it or take the chance that some people will start talking about class-action lawsuits. Unfortunately, they're right. I monitor or participate in four different lists or forums, and somebody's mentioned a lawsuit at at least three of them -- including here. The main thing I don't understand about how upset everybody's getting is that just the mere act of eating at a place like Mc's is taking a HUGE chance of cross contamination, much more dangerous IMO than the chance there's gluten in the first oil. richard --- A Olsen wrote: > I just called MCDONALDS at 1-877-MCD-FOOD and they > told me with the new labeling laws they had to > include ALL the ingredients that the supplier could > put in the cooking oil. Guest guest
To tell you the truth, I was laughing at the hysteria from minute one. We went from "darn, I can't eat fries" to "let's sue", "call Geraldo", and "alert Jerry Springer, Dr. Phil, and Oprah!!!" in the span of just a couple hours. In my opinion, it was a disgusting microcosm of our country as a whole and a harbinger of where we are headed, but I'll leave my own opinion out of this for the moment. As for myself, I live about 1/4 mile from a Mc's and eat the fries on a pretty frequent basis when I am in a pinch or on travel (very frequently). I am a runner and a cyclist, so I don't have the usual obesity issues associated with people who frequent Mc's. I looked at the whole Mc's thing from a common sense standpoint and not an alarmist one, like most of the denizens of this list. I have been GF for about a year, eat Mc's fries with pretty regular frequency, just had a follow-up endoscopy and was ruled to have "no signs of active celiac". Do you think for a minute that I was going to let some internet celiac expert's opinion keep me from my fries? Not hardly.. --E GOOD NEWS ABOUT MCDONALDS FRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just called MCDONALDS at 1-877-MCD-FOOD and they told me with the new labeling laws they had to include ALL the ingredients that the supplier could put in the cooking oil. Guest guest
I doubt Mcs could answer that. You can call the #800 and ask for the number of the distributor they use for the oil. Guest guest
i agree . There is always a risk eating out. It depends on so many factors. The past few times I have eaten at McD's I have gotten ill. I figured it was the fries, so I cut them out. I went and ate a burger, no bun and some apple dippers, and didnt miss the fries too much. We just need to use common sense. Guest guest
All companies are stating "wheat" if there is the smallest possibility of even a speck of wheat in their foods. The new law requires them to state this and I can understand their need to be informative. However, McDonals is the only fast food place in the town I live in that my sons have eaten fries at and have not had a reaction over the last year as celiacs. If in the future they experience a reaction, I will have to reconsider this information about their fries. But for now, they will continue eating at Mcs since our visits their are few times a month anyway.
